There is a weird stereotype that it is for some reason, before I left it for being massively chud /r/redditmoment was full of people insisting that it was impossible to criticise China/Communism on reddit, fucking baffling. I think maybe they count low effort shitposts of putting "OUR [THING]" and a Soviet Flag as actual support for Communism? Fuck knows.

low effort shitposts of putting “OUR [THING]” and a Soviet Flag as actual support for Communism

I’ve met plenty of chuds who are confident that blending in with communists basically consists of calling everything “OUR [THING]” and calling everyone a comrade

Which is of course ridiculous, because the correct way to blend in with communists is to call everything “the people’s [THING]”

I'd imagine a lot of it boils down to chuds not understanding the difference between liberals and leftists. Reddit is largely liberal, hating on communism and attacking China is not a minority opinion, at all.

They choose to believe that they're being persecuted for being anticommunist/anti-Chinese because it makes them feel good. Has nothing to do with anything they've actually experienced.

At most there will be one or two commies getting downvoted somewhere in the comments of a post pushing absurd imperialist propaganda.

It's not impossible to criticize, it's just very difficult to win the argument so they don't bother out of cognitive model self-preservation.

Reddit is a trash heap filled with chuds and libs. My best guess is less than 0.001% of redditors are actual Communists. Fuck that cursed website.

have you people taken a single history class??

"Hello welcome to class. Communism bad, Muslims worse, America good. " is a pretty good summary of a lot of my formal history education.

They might have taken a history class that covered the exact same material in 11th grade

This shit literally drives me insane. Smug Neoliberals talking about knowing "history" or "economics" while spouting shit that is both 100% incorrect and also literal nazi propaganda.

One of the replies to someone pointing out that GPUs are super expensive namely due to the capitalist profit motive:

If everyone produced their GPUs you'd still be playing Warcraft II because everything else wouldn't be running smoothly

Literally "communist countries don't and can't produce anything, you big goofball" like holy shit how about you go pick up a history book, you fucking dork

Wait, what leftist view about the Civil War says it wasn't about slavery?

i think their logic is roughly "leftists say the enslavement of africans by european settlers was motivated by the capitalist need for free labor, and that racism is more than an irrational, inexplicable pre-enlightenment aberration" -> "the plantations of the south relied more on this labor than the more industrialized north" -> "leftists blame capitalism, not slavery, for the civil war."

actually that sounds stupid as hell. i'm trying not to strawman here but christ what goes on in their heads?

That's what I was thinking. Maybe a lefty tried to explain how early capitalism created and entrenched slavery, and how two different subgroups of the bourgeoisie formed in the north and south, and the OP thought that they were trying to diminish slavery as the cause.

I deleted my fucking reddit account and I'm never going back so I'll comment on the stupidity of the top comment here instead:

however not even being able to achieve the desired system is a clear indicator of its whole idea's failure, independent of the failure's reasons

I mean seriously this is flat on its face idiocy and its depressing its the top comment. The reasons don't matter???? This is essentially the equivalent of saying that the failure of elections to achieve democratic results is a clear indicator of the failure of democracy as an idea...regardless of things like voter suppression, propaganda, or even outright fraud. Its just absolute fucking nonsense.

The French revolution collapsed into the tyranny of emperor Napoleon, therefore liberal democracy can't work. Just look around now, in the year 1913, constitutional monarchy is clearly the best possible system and will never be replaced

This argument also tends to disregard the fulfillment of desired results from socialist movements even without achieving the whole stateless, classless thing. Like decreasing poverty, liquidating landlords, increasing literacy and medical coverage, etc. You know, political goals.

the ideological double standard is really galling. communists had goals that they did not entirely achieve. you can't judge capitalism on whether or not it achieves its goals because it (supposedly) has no goals, it's (ostensibly) not a project, it just is. it's fine that it requires mass suffering to function, because the stewards of the system have never really aspired to end that suffering.

I will say I feel like I've noticed more good posts in /r/blackpeopletwitter and /r/latestagecapitalism hitting /r/all lately. I hope this a sign of an increasingly class conscious and angry working class.
