Admins don't like being associated with CTH (despite CTH being the only media source with a dedicated com, having each host represented in multiple emojis, and continually recycling their bits)
Being edgy, hated, outcasts has always been part of the appeal of both the pod, sub, and site. Why do you think everyone was so happy to be banned?
And
We are committed to providing a friendly, safe and welcoming environment for all
Please be kind and courteous to your fellow leftists. There’s no need to be mean or rude unless it's a chud.
Respect that people have differences of opinion
We will exclude you from interaction if you insult, demean or harass anyone.
Moderators are held to a higher standard than other community members. If a moderator creates an inappropriate situation, they should expect less leeway than others.
We believe in unrestrained criticism of power
Power to the posters.
TLDR; Yes, we have a prescribed tone. If users think mods are not abiding by the standards, they do have the right to criticise them.
We've all agreed to certain codes of conduct for interactions on the site. Mods are violating those. That doesn't change our approach to those outside the community. Piss on Thatcher's grave, massacre slave owners, hang all transphobes, but also form a "safe and welcoming environment" in which to do so. These are not contradictory.
I'm not trying to start a riot over the name change. I've been clear about my position on it, but also what the larger issue is.
:PIGPOOPBALLS: is not an adequate response to criticism from users. Lmao is not an adequate response to requests for more clear moderation. When the moderators claim they're trying to create a more respectable and inviting site, while engaging in such childish hostility, there's a real problem.
When this started, I was not critiquing the admins on their tone or procedure. I was discussing what would be a better name and a better use for this site. It's only when they went out of their way to not engage with feedback and make their hatred known that I began criticising them.
TC69 has said she has her own vision for the site and trying to impose it against virulent opposition from the community, but she's not letting us in on what that vision is. Is this the first step in a larger process towards a more banal, generic leftist site that takes itself too seriously and thinks it will be the source of the revolution, or are we going to be Hexbear.net while retaining the shit and cum humour, "being gay with your dad" subheading, and hosting a CTH fan community? Neither of these are good.
No judgement. I actually am at this moment because, uh, cash flow issues.
If anybody watches Doomed with Matt Binder, I'm one of the two or three card declines he mentioned last week that had prevented him getting to 200 patrons, lmao.
Your five expendable dollars would go further if you just gave it to the first homeless person you see every month.
I can say the same about the money that you spent on whatever device you made that post from, or literally any dollar that you spend on entertainment, or any kind of comfort that isn't essential for life.
Which is why I think that as a whole this kind of topic is toxic to the community and that people shouldn't broach it.
You can do whatever you want with your own cash
This discussion could have began and ended with this.
But committing defending that decision when someone else points out “hey we should consider how we can aid those who most need it in our immediate community” is lib shit.
This originally began with someone suggesting I donate to a politician. And in my exchange with you, I've only asked where the line is.
They already have a ton of money and you get the pod for free, I see no reason why you would give them more money when you could give it to an org or person that actually needs it?
I guess it just seems a little crazy to me, but it's your cash so spend it how you want, I'm not here to shame you for it or anything, we just have different things we are happy to spend on.
True, but it would probably continue if it make 10% of the money it makes now as that would still be a very comfortable living, especially for the what they do.
That’s very silly. How the hell did a community that began as a podcast sub end up with admins who hate said podcast and will literally dismiss you as a shitlib for enjoying it?
Sure, I won’t argue with any of that. I can acknowledge that the community has become much more than a podcast fan community, and I’m glad it has, but I never thought I’d see admins explicitly disparaging the show and its listeners and asserting that we should all be okay with the forum as a whole distancing itself from it. It just seems needlessly antagonistic, and I don’t see how they expect it to help anything.
People online love being contrary. When I was on the Halo forums there were no shortage of people who would tell you at any opportunity that Halo is a bad game, sucks, etc., and then you go to their profile that they went to the trouble to link and they have hundreds of hours in the game. Same shit.

its not just admins, plenty of users are onboard as well
Also I would say most of us here don't give a shit about the podcast or anyone on it

Some users are on board. Not most.
We actually held a vote on this when the site was created. Chapo.chat beat Hexbear, and there's no indication that has changed.

Not a bit. It's the values and principles they chose for the site.

Seriously, fuck off.
The admins, when setting up this site, said they'd accept and welcome user feedback. I've provided that feedback.
If you want to insinuate transphobia or wrecking on my part, find some actual fucking evidence. Otherwise, do not reply to me again.
christ this constant whining is why sane people don't use this site

I've explained this several times already.

I've always wanted to ask, just why? :whywhywhywhywhy:
Why not? I enjoy listening to the podcast.

You first.

That's exactly where this line of thinking ends up though. Why stop at the chapo subscription when I own an Xbox? A color TV and microwave oven?!

I get the satisfaction of supporting independent content.

Thank you.

You've seen their bank statements?
No, the asking price is $5.
"For the top 1% of podcasters, it's beyond supplemental cash — it's a very comfortable living. Chapo Trap House, an irreverent politics podcast, makes over $170,000 each month from its nearly 40,000 patrons. "Last Podcast on the Left," a true crime and paranormal podcast, pulls in almost $60,000.".
I guess it just seems a little crazy to me, but it's your cash so spend it how you want, I'm not here to shame you for it or anything, we just have different things we are happy to spend on.
I want the podcast to continue, and they'll probably continue if it stays making money.

That’s very silly. How the hell did a community that began as a podcast sub end up with admins who hate said podcast and will literally dismiss you as a shitlib for enjoying it?
We became a general leftist sub (in theory). A lot of people liked the culture without listening to the podcast. That was me at first.
But the podcast has sway over the community, even those who don't listen to it still get caught up in it.

The podcast hosts have hated us since the community started on Reddit.
