According to my grandma there were a lot of “food-men” back in the day. There was a bread man, an egg man, a produce guy.
I guess grocery stores were less of a thing then and most people didn’t have cars so they had to get everything delivered? Milkmen apparently remained around the longest, hence the stereotype.

My grandma had reusable seltzer bottles and a seltzer guy into the early 90s.
In India we still have an egg guy who comes around 9pm every other day to our apartment.
