Not really sure where to go with this. A storm came through the Midwest and as far as I know went from Iowa to Indiana. Here in Iowa most of the metro areas like Des Moines and on the east side like Cedar Rapids and Iowa City have their power out, some are saying it’s gonna be a week. The governor of Iowa is already in a hot mess over Covid and now most the populated regions of the state have no power. I’ve been checking on everybody I know and thankfully no one is hurt, but most of friends and family still don’t have power.
I don’t know what the fuck to do. Shit just kind of sucks.
In socialist states like Venezuela, the central government does nothing as the provinces deal with blackouts and disease.
Maduro my people yearn for freedom.
But for real it’s something how the gov just doesn’t give a shit on any level
Wait, the state lost power over just a storm?
Not a hurricane or even a tropical storm, but just a regular storm?
Maybe you should drop by my local plague cesspool, also known as Florida.
Yeah right! It was straight wind storm, like 80-100 mph winds. Not even a tornado just a storm.
Wait wait wait, so you actually got hit with a cat 2 hurricane?
Someone please translate this to Floridan for me.
I think that’s pretty accurate. Most we get are tornados but those tend to stay in one spot. This through the entire length of the state I think.
But yeah a hurricane with a lot less water lol
This is what climate change actually looks like. Not everything suddenly becoming Mad Max.
Yeah it's absolute madness. My parent's neighborhood is a huge mess and they're lucky enough to have electricity. Internet and cellular communications are absolutely fucked.
I'm in Iowa, CR area. Some aren't going to get power till the 20th and cell service is incredibly spotty. Tons of houses had massive damage that probably won't be repaired for months. Half the trees in the city are going to have to get removed. No stores downtown are open and some of the gas stations have fuel leaking into the street. People are using their cars for electricity but they have to go out of town for gas.
The spottyness of mobile and internet service has been getting really noticable lately. We had a somewhat large storm sweep through on the east coast last week and the second the power went out, so did the internet and mobile service. It isn't just healthcare. Every single piece of infrastructure in this trashheap country is being held together with paperclips and bubblegum. Maintenance and redundancy is simply lost profit.
I hope you and your family are safe. I’ve never seen anything like this. I saw there were lines of cars going out cr to towns like independence, who also don’t have gas.
Also I feel like the state gov has said anything, just banking on the power companies by themselves to get shit running
Time to see whixh jewlry store has a security system tbat had a backup generator or not. Turns out funding the revolution is gonna be easier than expected
First de-industrialization
Now de-electrification
New Dark Age, here we come
For future storms, look into "camping batteries". All kinds of sizes are available. I've had good luck w/Jackery (yes, it's a funny name, because not only does it sound sexual, but jacquarie was the term for peasant uprisings in the middle ages) brand ones. Not necessarily cheap, but you can get recharging solar mats with them, and if you get them big enough, you can run a whole (small) room with them.
You can also help your neighbors out with one, letting them charge their phones, etc., with it.
You're welcome! I'm in the Midwest too, on rural power lines, so I know the struggle is real.
Comrade storm o7 Death to America May a thousand more storms wash away the rest of it
many of our worker comrades live there, they don't deserve to die because of some rich worker exploiting motherfucker.
