They've done a lot of studies and it's pretty clearly a moral failing at this point.

It's okay to be Polish. It's okay to be German. It's okay to be Irish. It's even okay to be Italian.

But it is not okay to be White.

Im gonna put up a counterpoint here. Americans should not be identifying themselves according to what European country their ancestors supposedly came from (unless they arrived within the last couple of generations) because they have no real connection to the culture and it is, therefore, extremely cringe.

"Yea I'm Irish, Scottish, German, a little bit of Cherokee....", NO. No, you are not. shut the fuck up

          This is so.

Almost all of the newspapers in different languages of European immigrants have been gone for the better part of a century. If you don't speak the language, and aren't in contact with your relatives in the "home country", and if your ethnic community doesn't really have barriers, you're just American.

Ethnicities aren't primordial axioms; they emerge as people live together. After 150-400 years of living together, depending on how you're measuring, the ethnogenesis of "American" is certainly complete.

I'm not sure if I want to go so far as to say that it's completely okay to be American though.

Believe it or not, this is a thing that people respond to surveys with: not having any sense of which settlers were in one's ancestry.

That's a surprisingly honest thing for someone to admit. Couple assholes I work with are like "yeah im irish" and don't know shit about irish culture.

My point is that having an ethnicity that encompasses an entire range of skin colors is stupid and is a terrible way to categorize people (aside from in dermatology).

No one should feel a group identity towards "white people", and anyone who does this is bad.
