    Is McQueen in again

e: He's not. I'll go down the list and judge each Best Picture nominee without having seen any

"The Father": No plot summary (possibly good sign) on Wikipedia, about an old man with dementia (bad sign, very easily cliched), and has 99% on RT (unanimous praise, very bad sign). Probably incredibly sappy. Miss me

"Judas and the Black Messiah": Bad title. Recurring theme this year is bad titles. This is about Fred Hampton and is probably here for political reasons or w/e. Great art/great politics are separate spheres & most biographical dramas favor the melodramatic over the actually deeply interesting. Miss me

"Mank": Isn't this the one where they try to make Orson Welles out as a evil man who stole everything about Citizen Kane. Nice sappy ending where the great film rightfully wins an Oscar lol: like that would ever happen! Miss me

"Minari": "A Korean American family moves to an Arkansas farm in search of its own American dream. Amidst the challenges of this new life in the strange and rugged Ozarks, they discover the undeniable resilience of family and what really makes a home."

"Nomadland": Seems to be the usual Academy's yearly reminder poor people exist, except she becomes a nomad instead of sucking up her dogshit life like the rest of us. Unrealistic. Miss me

"Promising Young Woman": Genre. Miss me. Probably the best of the bunch since it's a comedy. Anyway, it just looks like a female version of Taken. May watch.

    Stiff competition this year.

The only interesting choice is the Borat sequel getting a nomination for Best Supporting Actress. I assume they only nominated it becuase it was newsworthy, but would really like her to win so she can call out all the Hollywood pedos in her acceptance speech.

That would be the fucking best.

I could see them being arrogant enough to do this too, thinking they were just dunking on Trump more, ultimately building their own guillotine.

Judas and the Black Messiah shows like 10 cops getting shot and for that it's a worthwhile film
