They'll be saying Xi assassinated him.
RIP I guess. Western media always claimed he was a liberal reformer type who secretly wanted to transition China to a Liberal democracy (Bourgeois republic) friendly to the west but IDK if that's true.
Might be worth reading this interesting article in light of his death
Li rose through the party ranks despite not having any power base, and at one point was even pegged for the top role of president.
Power bottom confirmed.
"This probably means even less restraint on Mr Xi's exercise of power and authority."
His death is being widely mourned on Chinese social media, with many expressing shock and grief - though comments on many posts appear to have been restricted.
Deaths of former Chinese leaders have triggered protests in the past. An outpouring of mourning during Jiang Zemin's death last year was seen as a subtle criticism of President Xi.
That article uses every single sentence it can as an anti-China soapbox, it's fucking crazy that we're hurtling into conflict with China like this and everyone is just believing the media about it
Xi stole all my spoons and nuked my favorite billionaire's penthouse apartment. Truly a dystopian nightmare
What about your toothbrush? Please don't tell me he became so sloppy to miss it.
He took my entire apartment block's toothbrushes and the surrounding neighborhood!
Xi bangs, Xi bangs
Ooh baby, when Xi moves, Xi moves
I go crazy 'cause Xi looks like a flower
But Xi stings like a beeThis is exactly why I knew i had to read Governance of China. If they spend this much time trash talking someone, it’s likely because the person is saying something they don’t want you to hear.
I still haven't gotten around to reading it but I hear it's pretty unexciting. Did anything really stand out about it to you?
I’d always start with Roland boer before going into GoC tbh
It is very long, and I am not even through the first book yet, so I can’t really say.
A guy can't even have his heart explode into pieces in peace without being used as propaganda
The guy was already retired for over 7 months so assassinating him was pretty pointless. If Xi was worried about him restraining power why not do it during the 10 years where he actually had influence? Yeah, there's conspiracies about his death floating about in the country but that just means the assassination hypothesis is even more absurd. Why would anyone risk a public backlash for essentially no gain?
The guy was already retired for over 7 months so assassinating him was pretty pointless, but Xi may have done it anyway to consolidate power. If Xi was worried about him restraining power why not do it during the 10 years where he actually had influence, although evidence shows that Xi may have been forcing him out of public spotlight during that timespan. Yeah, there's conspiracies about his death floating about in the country but that just means the assassination hypothesis is even more absurd, even though it is possible. Why would anyone risk a public backlash for essentially no gain, unless they were despotic evil dictator?
in the past, people have had very strong feelings about their leaders dying. this is because china bad.
Chinese Gorbachev is dead. I'm actually shocked. Western media was really banking on this guy doing to China what Gorbachev did to the USSR.
I know western China watchers thought he was the Chinese Gorbachev, but I have no idea if he actually was.
I'm exaggerating a bit. He was more right-wing than your average CPC member but nothing on the scale of Gorbachev.
He was part of the "right wing" of the CPC but he's not a Gorbachev. His politics would be similar to that of Hu Jintao
How closely aligned was he? I know that the US is notoriously ignorant on Chinese culture and politics and the CIA Is a failure over there. But I also know that for decades the CPC was a hotbed for corruption and bribery
My 5 year old just walked up to me and said "Likanda forever". I'm speechless.
