Assuming the community survives, we now have a crushing technical debt on our hands. The amount of institutional knowledge about the code which keeps this site running that has been lost over the past few hours cannot be overstated. None of the contributors can be blamed though. They were all volunteers, and they contributed a superhuman effort into putting this infrastructure together and constantly tweaking it to serve the needs of this community. We really are at a crossroads here.
Sorry for commenting on this “old” post. But is there any easy way to get involved in helping this site stay afloat?
Outside of donating that is. I have lots of time, money not so much
We don't hate you. We may disagree with some of the decisions you've made, but we truly appreciate everything you and the rest of the team have done for this community. :Care-Comrade:
That’s totally understandable. Please know, however that of the ~14000 users on this site, the vast majority value you and the work you do. You aren’t building this site // didn’t build this site for people that hate you, because the majority of the people on this site are yr comrades, and that’s coming from someone that bitches about you guys in user union constantly.
Thanks for what you’ve done. Even if you aren’t able to keep it up you’ve already done something great. Kind of rambling but just wanted you to know that you’re appreciated.
I meant I left my wallet in your dad's bed last night
:sadness-abysmal:
if it is it will only be apparent in hindsight, so I'm going to press forwards and keep doin my best
I just like having a place to come and post without having to deal with aggressively braindead takes and the Rddt hivemind.
Sometimes I wish we had the downvote just for those takes. I just wanna chill and post about theory and memes.
For real though, I like only ever getting to 0 when I disagree with myself
You can take the chapos out of the reddit, but you can't take the reddit out of the chapos.
What is happening though? I've been offline all day and noticed the site was down. Is this part of the vegan struggle session or something bigger?
Vegan struggle sesh was kinda the straw that broke the camel's back but also was our worst struggle sesh yet.
I participated but only to make everyone involved mad including myself
I thought it was a joke until I realized it wasn't then I just skipped all the vegan posts.
Ya see I'm not a masochist who goes into the vegan sub looking to get mad so I missed like 90% of the juicy bits
How. I don't think I've ever seen a vegan post. Just unsubscribe?
I'm not subscribed, posts from /c/vegan show up regularly when browsing hexbear.net with the default sort (active). I have no idea why
The toggle doesn't exist on the mobile version of the site (I didn't know it existed) but it was set to "all" when I activated desktop mode. I had to log back in since the Hexbear migration so idk if I set it to "all" ages ago on desktop and the setting persisted or if it might have been default.
"All" is default now but you can change it in the profile settings on mobile website.
I was linked to the Animal Cracker post and couldn't help but to post a what reply, but other than that just keep showing me delicious meat substitutes.
Animal cracker post feels like an op tbh. No way that shit wasn't a bit post.
That's what I mean, I really couldn't separate the actual serious posts from bits..
Thank you for everything you did for the site and all the countless free hours you and the rest of developers, mods and admins put in. Seriously it's an incredibly hard thing to do. Treat the mods, Devs and admins like fellow human beings people, they deserve that respect.
Wait what is going on?
I don't browse between 5pm and 7am and i miss the collapse of the site?
From what I understand the site is full of softies. Power users are announcing they are going to Parler, subs from Reddit are scared of getting banned so they need a new space and it's an abrasive situation. A mod for r/acidmarxism had some disparaging words about this project as well as the discord and I fear he is right. Beatnik is still out there somewhere and I hope he is doing well...
Has there been a recent influx of users from the dogfood sub that got banned?
Why would hexbear powerusers go to parler?
This feels like that office scene where someones like "what i miss?" and the response is like "so and so is dead and we had a funeral for a bird"
Our member numbers have been growing at a quicker rate but I have no idea if it's just the same folks making new accounts.
And no one is actually going to Parler, I'm just making the connection that these announcements about leaving chacha are one in the same. Which is what the folks at r/acidmarxism were taking issue with. This in an online forum, having thick skin is almost a prerequisite to being terminally online. I agree that is sucks and I want it to change, but I also expect leftists need to be prepared for these fights.
the title should have been the monologue from the end of The Room "I'm Fed Up With This Word Everybody Betray Me!"
A lot, most of it easily avoidable if there was better communication and more empathy in all directions, but it's gonna be alright
wut? I've been on here all night and this is the first I'm seeing it
