Figure I’d get some honest answers here that aren’t just gamers kissing developer ass that happens on other forums I.e the games subreddit.

You should probably just play it; it's not a game that's made better by knowing about it.

It's got some cool stuff, a great ost, several really funny bits, and it has a really good cast of characters. It isn't the best game ever, but it's really good. It isn't as good as was said by the most vocal fans, but that's basically impossible.

its like 2 or 3 hours long tops, the only thing you lose from trying it is half a snyder cut

Do you like Homestuck and /or Earthbound?

If the answer is No, you will probably dislike Undertale.

It's a really good game that is very late 00s internet culture before YouTube / Twitch.

It's a short game and part of the reason why the Fandom is so large is that the game has good characters but it's short enough that you wish it was a few hours longer.

I thought earthbound was above average like 7/10, but not amazing, but that was mostly because I thought it dragged too long for an rpg of its setting.

Leads me to believe i might like undertale more because it’s shorter

Undertale is one of those games you can beat in like 6 hours. Maybe over a few days with retries and boss battles you get stuck on (it's mainly a rhythm game). I'm not a big 2D gamer, but really enjoyed the creativity of the world. Kinda feels like a game made by a 5 year old doing collage. Lots of goofy simple sprites and the whole thing is very self aware.

If you like quirky dialogue, you'll like it. That's not meant to sound snarky, the game is really funny. You'll know pretty quickly whether or not it's your cup of tea

i think its pretty damn good, you have to be okay with some slightly nonsense comedy and a lot of reading, though. interact with/click on everything for flavour text, especially in the tutorial area; i've seen people miss mechanics by not talking to frogs.
