He's not saying it's funny because it's funny. He's saying it's funnier than Colbert because Colbert has become the same kind of shit where every joke is that Trump is gay or stupid. It's very lazy and not actually funny. The standard of comedy has dropped so much that even terrible stuff like the Bee is now funny by the same standards that any lib comedy is determined to be funny. "Elon Musk builds Sanders a third house on Mars" isn't any less funny than "Drumpf had a third scoop of ice cream"

He isn't saying anything about Colbert in that tweet. Those are your words and frankly you're right, but Taibbi said none of that, neither in that tweet nor the free version of the article.

And one can simply say that Colbert is not funny (which is frankly a stale point now) without comparing the Babylon Bee in a favorable light.

Taibbi did a dumb tweet, folks.

You have to read the article. It's pretty clear what he's talking about. Getting mad at a limited character form of communication for not being a whole article on the matter is silly.

I read the free version, as I said. His choice entirely what does and doesn't go there. Twitter is not the limiting factor here.

Even his tweet does not say "The Babylon Bee is good" he just said it's more likely to be funny than Colbert which is what his article explains the deeper reasoning behind. I'm not sure what the dunk is.

Trump is funnier than Biden. Oh no I said something positive about Trump. Guess I'm dunked.

              It's pretty simple.

"X is funnier than Y" is actually NOT a compliment because he wrapped it up in a bunch of other words, got it

Yes that's how language works. "X is funnier than Y and that means it's the end of the world" is not a compliment. "Wow that person is prettier than a pile of dogshit" is not a compliment either.

Those aren't even the same lol

The premise of "X is funnier than Y" is implied to be true. Besides, the freaks at BB want the end times, anyway.

"The Babylon Bee is funnier than Stephen Colbert and that's a sign of the end-times" is not a compliment unless you're being purposefully obtuse. You have to lop off half the sentence to interpret him as saying he enjoys the BB because it's funny.

I'm not insulting your thread and saying you need to delete it. You don't have to defend the point so hard. The success or correctness of your posts don't determine your self-worth. It's just not a proper dunk.

There was a very brief moment in time when Babylon Bee was first starting out that it occasionally was funny to me, because as a former Christian they actually were satirizing Christianity and the evangelical subculture in America some. Then they quickly dropped that (I think they got bought out by a reactionary evangelical nut) and now they don't dare actually make light of American Evangelicalism. Instead of "Christian satire" that satirizes Christianity, it's "satire about society from Christians". And even it's just "attack helicopter" style jokes.

It's wild how Colbert went from the corporate-sanctioned but still amusing parody of conservatives to the guy who invites Chris Christie on his show to dump on Bernie Sanders.

I hate to Godwin up this thread but it does remind me of that thing Liberals do when they're attacking Trump and they say shit like "at least Hitler liked dogs," or "at least Hitler cared about his country."

I mean the same can be said of people like Glenn Greenwald, Michael Tracey, and Jimmy Dore, and Taibbi definitely runs in those circles. Taibbi isn't outwardly bad but he's definitely more anti-liberal than he is pro-left. Not our enemy or anything but not really our friend either.

Yeah maybe he's gone weird lately and I guess he seems to have some bad takes, I haven't really followed him that much, but his criticisms of wall st around the GFC were really on-point in a way that was also very readable, and I have to give the guy credit for that

he's gotta be trolling, right? he's comparing doggy poop to people poop and going "i never thought i'd prefer eating doggy poop over people poop but here we are!" so people yell at him online for suggesting that we should eat poop, right?
