“Socialism is when the government does stuff. And it's more socialism the more stuff it does. And if it does a real lot of stuff, it's communism.”

:wolff-shining:

Richard D. Wolff, born on this day in 1942, is a Marxist economist and author known for co-founding Democracy at Work and hosting Economic Update, a weekly series which discusses political and economic issues from a Marxist perspective.

Wolff is also Professor Emeritus of Economics at the University of Massachusetts Amhers and currently a Visiting Professor in the Graduate Program in International Affairs of the New School University in New York.

In 1988, Wolff co-founded "Rethinking Marxism", a still running academic journal dedicated to Marxist analyses of economics, culture, and society. Among his other works are "Capitalism Hits the Fan" (2009) and "Democracy at Work: A Cure for Capitalism".

The New York Times dubbed Wolff "America's most prominent Marxist economist", and he is featured regularly in television, print, and internet media.

gotta be recuperated with a balance of edgy enough to sell rebellion to the alienated but not too far to really start spreading actual anti-capitalist sentiment.

And then all of the stuff that is explicitly communist is Americana folk music or remixes of the Internationale. A lot of metal almost gets there but it takes a hard right turn and ends up in conspiracyville about the Illuminati alien reptilians or whatever

April is apparently "Autism Awareness Month" and Friday is apparently "Autism Day" (or something), AND I'm getting vaccinated (which, as we all know, definitely causes autism.)

I can only assume this means that on Friday, my normal autistic powers will be QUADRUPLED. I'm gonna flap my arms so hard that I fly!

    New Megathread @DashEightMate @ScreamoBMO @itsPina @renamon @quartz242 @rozako

“Elections outside the workplace stand in an ambivalent relation to capitalism’s exclusion of real democracy inside. On the one hand, elections distract people from their conscious and unconscious upsets with working conditions. Elections focus instead on political candidates, parties, and alternative policies around issues other than capitalism versus alternative economic systems and other than their respective working conditions. That is why supporters of capitalism appreciate elections. Well-controlled elections do not question, let alone threaten, capitalism.”

I posted a thing here about ppl who are in DSA getting involved with the International Committee if they want to help organize an anti imperialist anti war campaign against a cold war with china, and got good responses. Posted it in r/genzedong and got the most cringe terminally online leftist responses ever. lol ppl who dont do anything but shitpost online calling me a liberal while im literally trying to organize a campaign like this and help push back on propaganda is so off-putting, do people just have zero self awareness how they sound? How is it that this site manage to get over that kind of cringe hyper sectarian shit thats so prevalent among so many online leftist spaces?

I don't have any actual useful input on the topic, but Wolff's talks are definitely "babby's first socialism" if I've ever heard it, and it's great for mildly left libs and socdems to start to think beyond liberalism and toward some sort of actual economic reform. I don't think he's going to be a "Stalin did nothing wrong" memer or log on and debunk anti-PRC propaganda all day or anything, but I absolutely get the impression that he has a far deeper understanding that "WOEs == socialism, vote Sanders/Corbyn", so it's annoying for people to log on and call him a lib/socdem idiot which I've seen here and there.

He is very much someone who is leveraging his incidental clout and playing the game a bit to get the message out there. Very good example of pipelining if you compare his cable news messaging to his lectures as well as who he surrounds himself with

I don't have the time stamp but he had a chat with Marxist Paul a few weeks ago and talked about some of his upcoming projects, one of which he hinted pretty hard was an interview with Dr Wolff. I think it was towards the end of the stream
