There's a documentary about writing Dredd that's meaningful for a significant amount of the run. Like I said the rules were Dredd is the villain but he's also the hero. I think they got bought up at some point but when that was I can't remember

Well its easier when there's not a plague. When the plague ends join a sport club of some kind. Taek wan do has a good gender balance and you're all being ridiculous together. Something like that where its a bit silly is good. Joining like real sport you get more hierarchy behaviour. I know people compete in taek wondo but its deeply silly compared to like olympic wrestling or something like that for most of the people involved.

In the bit of Covid remaining I suggest playing games. The inverse is actually true here. The more people take it seriously the more likely they are to add you if you communicate well and are chill. Matchmaking will put you roughly at the level where you should be in regards being good at whatever. I've made a load of online friends through counterstrike over the years. Obviously you are going to meet a lot of shitheads that way but also people who just want to play a game where you talk a bunch and cheer each other on.

I don't know what you work at or if you do but like you can make work friends. For reasons I won't get into one of my best friends is a guy I was trapped in a room with for a year and half. From 8 in the morning till about t, half 5 it was just us. He's deeply apolitical, just like any healthy person , so I couldn't really talk that all the time. When we did he'd try to fuck with me in different ways like Jeremy Corbyn is an antisemiete, my response was that's a plus for me but I don't think its true (you should pick up this is a joke response and not something I believe) . We bonded over the shit we could talk about, movies. He's big into the marvel shit which I found depressing but was also a cinephile generally so we could talk good movies. So like you can talk to people on the level they are without trying to propagandise, especially when you know when that's going nowhere. I couldn't even get my man to join the union but if I had a problem he would always have my back.

They in their bulk were not ideological but they hated the right people and understood what little they had was never going to make any difference. Feel bad for them. Feel sad prosperity not through the stock market is just shut down as an idea for them. They aren't wrong about that. None of us are going to live to see socialism

well he's not wrong obviously. Before the pandemic I had to move further from work, I went from losing half an hour to commute to the guts of 2 hours. So like an extra hour and a half of my waking 18 hours is added to the 8 and a half I'm already losing. My worry is instead of improving public transport he's likely to give Elon Musk a contract to build his one car tunnels

I doubt anyone would mind if they had a female gta protagonist. Like a certain segment of a segment would go apeshit but that's how they get off. I kind of get what he means with the Mafia games, nothing really stopping anyone doing a Francis Ford Coppola style game well with a black protagonist but as I understand it that game wasn't that. I watched a friend play 15 minutes of it and there was a lot of Nbombs. See its ok if you're depicting racists and not at all grating in the early 21st century.

I can't remember much of what happened in Silent Assassin, you fought mafia and then at some point ninjas in a Japanese castle. The game found its groove in the later games

Time has been kind because I don't remember that. Hitman 2 Silent Assassin or modern Hitman 2? Cause Hitman got cool around Contracts, Blood Money and then nothing happened before nu Hitman

oh yeah, the hitman games are all about murdering degenerate rich people who are twisted by their wealth. There's no bit where you are killing a communist. Its all killing disgusting mega wealthy people.

  • Look at a certain point you have to expect some people are never going to learn. If you want to fuck with them for some reason in 6 months Biden will have continued on Trump/bipartisan policy in a new and horrific way, maybe war with Iran maybe invading Bolivia. You can say I told you so at that point. But you have to recognise they aren't going to learn anything. The people you want to convince are young and haven't had their brains wrecked by cable news.

  • Assad is not a good guy but in the syrian civil war the alternatives were Isis win and slits the throats of anyone who doesn't want to live in the bronze age or he gives up to the benefit of some pro-market neolib no one has ever heard off and his country turns into a more fucked up version of Libya as no one wants that, Isis member or regular person.

Its very good. It will be great when they fix on it

I'm not going to spoil anything about it but I kind of what to talk about the themes of it though. So its cyberpunk, vicious corporations and capitalism in particular is the enemy obviously, intrinsically but I think there's a little more to it than that.

I threw in some extra thoughts about it that go into hard spoilers. There are minor spoilers before that but nothing you won't have been confronted it with by the start of the middle and main part of the game. Its clearly stated where the hard spoilers start. They are about an ending. So you were warned.

    spoiler

___The game is about death though as much as it is about capitalism. Specifically your death and your relationship to it. You meet Keanu Reeves and he does the legwork of being angry about the corporations for you and what they steal from everyone. You don't have to discover it, he says it in a way that makes it banal. The question here is what are you going to do about it. You are a finite being , the game is very concerned with making you feel that. You are probably going to die at the end of the game, there is no eternal summer your character is going off to. Prolonging your life is damnation and permanent isolation from the human species. What the game suggests matters about you is your connections to other people and what you will do for them and your time with them is absolutely limited. So what will you do for people who will outlive you.

Or do you believe the world ends with you so you should do everything possible to prolong that? For the corporation that is absolutely the answer and it makes them beings of infinite evil, unbounded by death, whose only joys are the observations of fear and subservience. If you think the world exists pasts you and you are in a peculiar way belonging to other people what do you think is right thing to do in the face of your demise. It doesn't really answer that, how the fuck could it, but that's what its trying to confront you with.

edit decided to expand on this a little. We are into hard spoilers here though

The evil ending is you side with the main antagonist corporation to stabilise it and they will help you with your terminal brain problem. You might live a 'normal' and healthy life! The current instability has happened because the CEO killed his father in order to become the CEO, you were a witness to this and your testimony (and gunplay) helps bring the corporation to the control of his sister. She will run it better because he's been making some goofs. Apart from dear sister no one really gives a shit about the patricide, its a handy reason to get rid of him though. A cynic might take the view the corporation isn't going away and they have the best chance to help me and what do I give a shit who runs it. Wrong.

Its revealed in backstory throughout the game that the fail son at one point turned his back on the corporation and started his own gang. Then he returns to the fold and its kind of shocking to people that he did this but no one really knows why. When you finally defeat the fail son he reveals why he did everything. He says his dad only cared that people fear him because that is is why they will obey him. Dad is a tyrant who terrorises millions of people for his own amusement, that's the fun part of business. Fail son did not care for that perspective so he left. Then was moved by Keanu when he literally nuked the corporation even though it had no long term effect. When he killed Dad and took the corporation it wasn't for personal benefit it was in order to destroy it. He literally says Keanu showed a nuke didn't work so I decided to become a better kind of bomb to free people from fear. Fail son isn't a good guy but he recognises genuine evil and has done everything in his power to weaken and then dismantle it.

Anyway dear sister has formed her plan with her undead dad using the same technology that gives you Keanu in your head. Evil Dad takes over his son's body and is reborn and becomes the libertarian god king. You get six months to live or you go to digital soul prison forever. So that's the cynic and the coward's way of responding to the imminence of their death.

Its very frustrating. Like if we had the keynsians running things they would have done massive stimuluses and kept everyone inside for 2 months and it would have been done. Capitalism had to lose its mind though and think the market would sort it out.

I'm not arguing for capitalism to be clear, just saying there used to be less plunge into disaster versions of it

yeah, he's an awful person. Honest feeling is the world might have been better off with trump. Biden in means the libs are going back to sleep and will learn nothing and there aren't many years left for total climate collapse. If trump had won we would have had chance of mashing their faces in it but with Biden same catastrophe but only people that don't matter to dc give a shit
