I started spiro and it's been so good for my mental health but it has caused insomnia for me. It is starting to get to me, I'm only getting 5-6 hours of sleep a night (sometimes less...) I go to sleep and wake up at around the 5 hour mark and can't fall asleep.

I only started like 2 weeks ago. Has anyone else dealt with this? Does it go away? Any tips to get around this? If I could sleep well this is like a miracle drug for me. I really want it to work out

I was waking up in the middle of the night to pee on spiro. Eventually I adapted to being able to fall asleep and my schedule at the time let me sleep in if I needed.

Melatonin or Benadryl (for sleep) isn't bad but any sleep aid should be used only temporarily if possible.

I would like to second this from personal experience

Its different than just peeing though. I'm like totally wired when I wake up and just absolutely cannot fall back to sleep.

It's not a typical side effect from spiro, in fact some people get fatigued.

Anything else changed in your life? Anything like a new SSRI, SNRI that can make you tired but wired? Anything particularly stressful any changes at work/home life? I mean, obviously there's the transition part lol.

No the only change I've had is Spiro :/ overall it's improved my quality of life but yeah it has also just wrecked my sleep schedule. But I'm trying multiple things cause it's been so so good for me

Were you on cyproterone acetate before? Was wondering if this is the depressive effect coming off...

Right I think you were on monotherapy before, mb

You could try melatonin to help counter the lack of sleep. Ash and I have trouble sleeping but melatonin has helped. It's also a natural sleep aid as in your body produces it so it shouldn't react badly with anything.

      insomnia

5-6 hours of sleep a night

      blocky-wat sicko-wistful

I go through bouts of sleeplessness whenever I start a new medication. It takes my body time to adjust. Just try to relax and don't get it into your head that it's going to keep you up at night, especially if it's been good to you (I know you got that health anxiety, like me). If it continues for like 1.5 months, then you probably need to look into it

I'm sorry you deal with insomnia, for me I try to get at least 7 hours and my quality of life gets pretty bad If I don't get enough sleep. This is also new to me, I haven't had sleep issues since I was a kid until I started Spiro. I guess we'll see if it goes away :/ but I hope I don't have to stop

There are other androgen blockers ♡

If they stop spiro, cypropterone is right there and available (in fact, you might move to it eventually anyway).
