Xenia, the fox girl mascot of Linux, was first designed in 1996 by Alan Mackey. She was meant to be an alternative to Tux, the official mascot.

She had fallen into obscurity, but was noticed by a Twitter user in 2019 and was redrawn as a fox girl. But as it turned out, Xenia was originally meant to be male! The original creator, Alan, was cool with this, saying "It matches the transition of a lot of the smartest, nerdiest Linux users I know" and "And sure, you made her trans!".

So now we have a trans Linux mascot. And I think that's neat.

I wish there was a better way to play the virtual guitar, maybe a strum could be a keypress or something. I spent around 20 minutes learning the intro to Everlong, but the input delay inconsistently messes it up catgirl-huh

This game is so fun though it-is-known

yeah agree, i mean i wish it were easier to pick individual notes but that's more a skill thing. its so funny how much easier it is to just grab a real guitar lol

edit: i do wanna say though the virtual guitar is pretty good, programmign chords and then strumming with mouse is pretty intuitive and probably the least bad simple UI for this

Oh I wasn't saying it was bad by any means, the fact that I'm able to play Everlong coherently means a lot, and I like how you can set presets for chords. That's enough to play a lot of songs. It just suffers from input delay due to being online. Though I now wonder if playing the game on a solo map would fix that...

Also I should really pick up guitar again.

yeah its p good! I just wish I could save the presets as 9 chords is not really enough if you want to add embellishments and little riffs but its not really built for that.

I haven't tried solo but yeah the input lag will always be a thing when using a computer. I recorded a really straightforward song using my laptop and an old version of Ableton through wine and I thought I could handle the 200ms delay just by using the direct monitor on my interface (which was good) but apparently that 200ms was so inconsistent that I had to warp the shit out of all the tracks to get them to line up. I was following along with the metronome the entire time!

Edit: I know I could probably resolve this but I haven't deep dived into JACK yet and pipewire and wine and I dont want to put windows in my laptop so maybe I'll just use my PC but its in the other room. Its a mess that I need to sort out, like many music related things I'm my life.

Sorry, this one got away from me.
