Teens are hypersensitive to being mocked but resistant to being scolded, don't treat it as something outrageous, treat it as something lame

you think the teen is gonna understand that Peterson got embarassed at any level

Peterson literally studders the whole time, calls Zizek "sir" at one point and spends 10 minutes fidgeting with a ball of foil. If they can't see it there's no hope for them

I dont think Zizek's ramblings, tho valuable and embarassing for Peterson content wise, are gonna have the barely functioning teen brain (as far as any level of political or rational thought or engagement )goes come out of it believing that Zizek was the cool and correct guy between the two

I second this as one that was bullied for the same thing. Uncritical support for my brother bullying me until I became a commie.

Seconding @ElGosso's recommendation of stuff like early Contrapoints. I know she's a :LIB: but imo this is exactly the kind of thing her earlier vids are useful for.

Contrapoints good. She led me to ML. She's entertaining and mostly her arguments are framed well. I also tend to ignore anything that happens on Twitter so maybe there's something idk.

She doubled down on a pretty shit take, and then had the super-cringe voooooooottteeeeeeee video. Not worth cancelling forever for me personally, though I totally understand if trans and gender-fluid comrades are pissed off and not in a forgiving mood.

Isn't like early Contrapoints and stuff basically dedicated to this type of deradicalization?

Unfortunately she nuked all of her pre-transition videos so a lot of this stuff is gone now :|

Oh I thought she said she was gonna leave them up

Maybe the other Breadtubers have something, there are roughly 2000000000000 videos about how Jordan Peterson was a stupid poopoohead out there

Older nephew coming off of reddit for a while, not as extreme but try bonding with him by doing stuff. I think this lowers their guard then talk to him while doing stuff. Hope this helps.

Yeah, people can tell when you actually have their individual best interests at heart vs are trying to convert them to be a pawn for a political end.

Even if that end is in the person in question [and humanity’s] best interest in reality, if they don’t see it that way it’s going to come off as just manipulation and disregard.

This is really important. He's going to listen a lot more to what you say if you have a good relationship in general.

If you want an actual good replacement, debating him won't work. Send him a replacement of some equally entertaining left wing shit.

Like if he's been sucked down the Ben Shapiro hole, send him Hasan Piker's videos.

That's a hell of a lot more effective than debating him and making him defensive. Defensive people dig in their heels and shut down.

My little brother got like this but then his phone broke and he couldn't convince our dad to get him a new one so he'd use my laptop a lot and he'd get my youtube recommendations. Watching stuff like second thought and kurzgesagt dewormed his brain. So if you can I'd say try watch some leftlib /sciencey stuff on his youtube account and maybe like and follow some leftist stuff on his tiktok. Get the algorithms to do the work for you

Kurzgesagt risks him turning into a 'let's terraform and do nuclear' stemlord, which is marginally better, if that.

The alt-right has a very real body count. Christchurch, El Paso, Heather Heyer, etc.

Yeah, but I don't see any of those guys actually organizing anything or doing successful armed resistance. The dumbass old nazi/kkk militias are still there, but this type of alt-right is just one off suicide sprees.

The only time they get organized is when some millionaire does it for them. Even then they almost never outnumber counter protestors.

That said, always be aware and never let someone you know her to the point where they do a mass shooting. Keep them under close watch and do what you can to talk then back to reality.

Depends entirely on why they are falling into the rabbit hole. If it’s just social isolation go and try and drag them out of it. If they are being an edgy chuuni, then it’s just a phase but you don’t want them making friends with just far right weirdos because it makes it harder to walk back. It could be they are just rejecting liberalism but don’t have a solid working of theory.

One common trend I’ve seen is a lot of the far right identifies the problems in our current society which mainstream liberalism just ignores or tries to manufacture enough disinformation that the problem is actually a good thing. If someone is going hungry because a few billionaires lobbied for better subsidies, comparative advantage doesn’t mean shit and the complete lack of social safety net that is learn to code isn’t going to address this. Fascists correctly identify this problem and provide their own narrative and a final solution to dealing with it. It makes them appealing to anyone rejecting liberalism when your only alternative is rad libs and upper class libs larping as Maoists and having post colonial gender critical struggle sessions to purge their guilt.

I think 3 things are essential: a real, good relationship with the person; education on social issues: and anti-loser interventions like learning how to shower and talk to cute people.

I was deradicalized through simple education. Someone took the time to explain the history of oppression to me, while also explaining the perspectives of other people.

At the same time, this person taught me to cook, dress myself, talk to cute people, encouraged me to play sports, and otherwise kept me out of the Incel hole while forming a real relationship with me.

Now we get in arguments about the viability of electoral politics and I think they wonder if they went too far, haha

When I was a teenager I fell down the youtube alt right rabbit hole. Kyle Kulinski's show pulled me out. I'm not a listener to him nowadays, but I think he really speaks the language of younger guys and can help redirect people.

Why he so sad? Alt right takes anyone and gives them a sense of community.

We can't say that the left is as welcoming.

If you get them a little dialectical materialsm, lookin at some sexy maoists on tik tok, then get them a hobby and they will snap out of it.
