how does anyone watch this dunning-kruger chuckle fuck speed talk about something he knows nothing about, then after receiving a well informed answer pretend he can't understand ideas or concepts longer than 2 sentences?

like how fucking idiotic do you have to be to think you know more about economics than a Yale grad, PhD in Economics, published, multi-decade professor

The worst case of this was when Wolff debunks his weird definition of Capitalism and gives a description that actually differentiates it from other modes of production, and he is left with no retort but can't take the L so he spends the remaining debate poking fun at Wolff for... giving examples and talking about history?

It was really frustrating, he repeatedly willfully ignored when Wolff actually defined capitalism or socialism for him and just kept complaining that he gave historical context or wasn't distilling his answers into one short sentence. I think he even says at some point that history is irrelevant.

Why do people watch Destiny debates again? The whole thing was a colossal waste of time.

gamers can't do historical materialism because that would require them to be human beings who live in nature

Yeah people are way too attached to this. Maybe he brought a few people to the left, maybe he didn't.

In the end, if he didn't move a single person he lost like an hour of his time?

      Who cares? Lol.

After the debate he made fun of wolff's credentials, pretending like they don't mean anything. He also said "I guess conservatives are right, socialism is when the government does stuff" because he clearly understands wolff's position

Exactly this holy shit. Why do people here want to police how the man uses his time? Nobody was saying this was a particularly consequential event in world politics or whatever.

Oh cool so you know with 100% certainty nobody was convinced of anything or made to questions their ideas.

Yeah it would have been better for Wolff to appear on better platforms but this is the hand he was dealt. I doubt he rejected appearing on MSNBC or whatever to debate Destiny.

If he got a dozen dumbass Destiny fans to reconsider their bullshit ideology it was a job well done, what the fuck else is he gonna do with his time during a pandemic?

Will do. You make sure you send a strongly worded email to prof. Wolff to make it clear you heavily disprove of how he spends his time. I'm sure he'll take it to heart.

Someone was saying the destiny audience was criticizing him. They're a lot of bizarre things, but they don't seem to behave like a right-wing audience.

Reminds me of some of the "debates" I've gotten into on reddit where people refuse to understand a simple point you're trying to make and you waste an hour trying to explain some basic foundational ideas to them. Destiny had no interest in learning what the definition of socialism was, he was just immediately on the offensive ready to contest and push back on absolutely everything. That's how these debate bros work, they're in debates to win and all that means to them is impressing their 14 year old gamer audience.

like it is actually pretty simple if both sides are not going to concede or change their minds any debate is just a performance to see who can make it look like they are winning to the public like example ben shapiro talking fast non sense for example is a tatic because if you have to go and qualify his answers it looks like you are on the defensive

These debates are never really about discussion. They're about self-promotion. You "win" the debate when people who didn't know you existed are now clicking the "Subscribe" button your YouTube page.

I'm not going to bother with this shit, because I already know who Wolff is and I have seen nothing to suggest I should care who Destiny is. I don't know what it really says about the participants, but much like the Zizek/Peterson debate it mostly just seems like an online demagogue is desperate to find someone to "fight" in public in the face of a fading audience. Why did Wolff agree to have a discussion with a notorious man-child? Maybe because he's also just looking for a larger audience. Maybe because he just kinda enjoys participating in these spectacles. But I much prefer hearing the professor having a sit-down dialogue with a Chapo than this "Man versus Cartoon Character" display.

It's the final level of the debatelord foodchain.

Religious debatelord argues with his aunt about the Bible, thinks he's smart, decides he can debate Evolution.

New Atheist debatelord spends years dismantling creationists, thinks he's smart, decides he can debate Feminism or Racism.

Centrist lib twitch streamer debatelord spends years dismantling New Atheist right wing pipeliners, thinks he's smart, decides he can debate a Yale graduate PhD in Economics on the merits of Socialism.

but now he’s just straight-up arguing on behalf of capitalism? idk what’s going on anymore

Pretty sure he's a landlord so I'm not surprised. My assumption was that he was some sort of breadtuber, as in like you said, he'd say nice things about socialism but still sides with the capitalists.

He's a contrarian. So when Trump/GOP was in power, he went 'left'. Before that, and now since, he is back to being a right-wing contrarian.

He is a landlord, he is a g*mer.

He has never had a coherent, correct viewpoint, other than thinking infestors and queens were overpowered and underutilized in sc2.

He's always been a neolib, he just got kinda famous debating nazis a couple years ago. Even most posters on the breadtube subreddit didn't consider him a leftist back when i posted there. I think his vids even got removed by the mods regularly because they were considered OT.
