Let's say that hypothetically none of the problems you face as a black trans woman are real. Do you follow? Now proceeding from those premises, wouldn't your situation logically

Who told people debate was a valid form of discourse?

It's the Ivy League tier shit. A bunch of blue bloods preening at each other for decades, and now the proles have started doing it too. Serfs aping their masters.

I think even the romans knew it was for show and we are acting like the ability to talk real fast and real loud count for anything

Rhetoric is critical in building class consciousness. That's as true among the capital class as the proletariat.

The Roman Senate was all about influence peddling and deal making. It was a structure for expressing power, not the source of power itself.

"Excuse me, but do you have a SOURCE for this easily observable claim?" "What's that? You spent 20 minutes finding an actual source? Like I'd trust that BIASED source, now debunk these completely unrelated arguments, oh and by the way, if you can't I'll just assume you LOST the debate."

    Every fucking time.

A minor point of clarification: introducing the pronouns had nearly unanimous approval IIRC, the real struggle session (and when the cretins really came out) was when we rightly decided to make pronouns mandatory. It was wonderful for purging reactionaries.

            At least that's my recollection.

The pinnacle of this is "Being oppressed is actually good. You get a special 'oppressed' status"

That could only be thought by someone who has experienced not one second of oppression in their life and only read about it.

Not sure if by some you meant folks from here, but that's absolutely true, as much as I love this place and despite how it's leagues better than most of the internet here, some people here will be completely oblivious that they've been jerry many many times. People tend to forget that this isn't a 'bad' person thing, it's not a 'dumb' person thing, its hammered into you without your notice. Its something to be actively worked against. We're leftists here, but that doesn't make the brainworms magically not exist, doesn't mean you haven't absorbed a lot of fucked up shit through cultural osmosis.

So please hypothetical user who this is directed at, take this to heart. If you're talking about things which are just theoretical or abstract to you don't spout your take, I guarantee you someone will, because the take you were gonna took was not rare, and there was no fear of it going unsaid. Instead of taking up space with takes that bury marginalized comrades, do what you can to raise them up and extend their voice and ask questions etc

Nah, it is a stupid point about infighting. I don't like the term class reductionism personally. I think thr term isn't helpful and gives people some false consciousness.

People use it to mean nazbols. However, if you really only focus your effort onto class issuess it is by default intersectional. Since. If I only try to help the working class I will be working to help more opressed and minority persons than not. Moreso even than someone working to help minorities on an indentitarian basis. Since all opressed identites have similar class intrests. So there is no more roboust and egalitarian goal than uniting the workers of the world. It is just an extrremly online conversation about it. So you are probably less dumb than me for having your brain pure of this mess

We operate within a wholly systemically oppressive system. That system extends to literally everything, not just material structures, institutions, law, policies, and so on, but also into cultures, mindsets, ways of thinking, and how we determine what is and isn’t true about the world. The liberal debate nerd approach to knowledge and society is, in fact, rotted through with white, Western, male (and so on) biases.

The way I've seen it explained is that nobody is born with depression the way people are born with ADHD or autism. People can be "cured" of depression but not ADHD or autism which are more like different wirings of the brain than an unambigous sickness or defect. When explained that way it makes sense, but sometimes it makes me feel like shit ngl

"Hey we've got a new term and community for people whose brains don't work the typical way."

          "Cool, do I count?"

"No, your brain is different in the broken way."

          ;_;

Honestly we don't know if people are born with depression or not. We don't know what biochemically causes depression in the first place. Very young children can have depression and attempt suicide (I was one of them). And asserting that depression is curable is suspicious too because, sure, it is for most people - most cases will resolve over time with or without effective treatment - but there's a whole population of treatment resistant chronic depressives that have terrible outcomes and single-digit rates of remission. I don't think we understand nearly enough about the condition to put all depressed people in the "curable temporary illness" category.

i mean.... people can be "cured" of adhd too. same as with depression, they give you a drug cocktail, you keep taking it for forever, and you do the talky talk therapy thing.

sooo, seems like a meaningless distinction to me.

question ought to be "do you suffer from a non-typical neurology" if yes, neurodivergent. that simple.

anything else just smacks of "my problem is worse than yours so your issues dont count!"

            which is gross

ADHD and autism have positives. Somebody with either (or both) of those can, in the right environment, live a happy and fulfilling life.

Depression is, by definition, not living a happy and fulfilling life. That's why even though "No, your brain is different in the broken way" may feel wrong, it's not.

And to be clear, I have both autism and chronic depression. I would love to be cured of the latter, but the former is a core part of who I am.
