Anti-trans bills are a losing issue politically outside of insane GOP primary voters.

Especially because anyone who goes outside knows someone who's trans or mas met and spoke with someone who is.

It's not as easy to demonize people when most people can now put a friendly face to the group they're oppressing. Not saying it doesn't happen, but normal humans with healthy social behaviors tend to adapt to changes like that pretty well.

Even my mother who was super homophobic when I was a kid has mellowed out as she left her christian cult and rejoined the workforce where people who are gay exist.

Yeah exactly. Most people who have met trans people have at least some ability to emphasize and most people who haven't don't give a shit and think the bathroom bills and stuff are needlessly cruel.

Like a good example of this was the 2016 governor's race in North Carolina. The incumbent GOP governor signed a cruel ass bathroom bill in 2016 and then during his reelection campaign a bunch of companies pulled out of NC and he literally lost reelection despite Trump being at the top of the ballot and carrying the state by 3 points. Like the guy got wiped specficially because a small but electorally significant group of fucking Trump voters thought the bathroom shit was insane and voted for a Democrat instead.

This shit doesn't work outside of super red states where the only thing that matters are Republican primaries, because your average GOP primary voter is a maniac.

This plays into their goals perfectly.

Be outwardly racist to get the base riled up. Have them fail. Then blain cancel culture.

They have done this forever. And it always works.

We already require two forms of ID to register to vote, but in order to prevent the dead from voting we must pass this bill which automatically purges all voter rolls every year except for those whose family have been registered voters since before 1850.

I suspect they won't drop it as a culture war issue. They will simply bring up trans people in sports instead, shifting from "trans people shouldn't exist" to "trans people shouldn't be in women's sports" flawlessly without missing a beat.

"Trans people shouldn't be in womens' sports!" I cry, while forcing trans men into womens' sports

"Trans people shouldn't be in any sports they should compete among themselves" is the next step they take in that argument.

Yeah, in general they'll be overturned in a relatively short time, so why waste time on that when they can instead work on funding the police more and cutting taxes more. (at least more then the Dems are)

Coddled weenies and giving up on an ambition because it wasn't immediately easy. Name a more iconic duo.
