I would get a Mazda 3 hatchback or a Subaru Outback
Pontiac Azteks are also pretty dope and affordable,. They were designed to be slept in. But they're hard to find.
Might consider a 2nd or 3rd gen outback if you're looking for something cheaper, they have nearly the same storage space as the new ones.
I've been contemplating trading my Subaru in for a Mazdaspeed 3 (the turbo one)
For the record a Subaru Impreza hatchback is too small to sleep in for anyone over 5'5" or so, maybe a Legacy or Outback wagon would be more roomy
Edit: if you want something sporty the Legacy GT or Outback XT are the turbo models
If you're an American: a Ford Fiesta or Focus hatchback. Don't get an automatic, those two have bad ones. Get a Fiesta ST and you won't be saying 'fuck cars' anymore unless you're completely nonredeemable, but even a normal Fiesta is a pretty good drive.
Or you could spend almost new car money on a used Honda Fit but they're boring, slow and leak like sieves.
Can you really lie down in the back of one? They look kinda small for that
Yes! I used to have a Fiesta and I'm 6' myself, I'd lay down in the back all the time with the front seats folded forward. Sometimes with company but that was always a little tight.
afaik the honda fit is renowned for like the cheapest, smallest car that you can still very comfortably sleep in. it might not be the absolute best one, and I'll definitely second a focus/fiesta st too, but they're a good option
I really like the fit. A buddy of mine's got one, and while I'm not usually a fan of small cars, it is really fun to drive, and you can fit more stuff in there than you'd expect. But it is tiny.
honda fit
Yeah Honda Fit is great to sleep in! There are two options: just keep the backseats and put a bit of wood over it and mattress or remove the backseat and build a stage (I like the former).
(Also, of course, fuck cars.)
If fucking in cars is a requirement that changes the cars that are nice a bit. There are a few long-ish mobiles which are good for sleeping (even cuddled) but are to short for even sitting sensible.
Things like the VW Caddy are - in my opinion absurdly comfortable. So the measurements of it might help. There are much cheaper SEA models there, I prefer actually the cuddly ones cause they are much cheaper. Sadly I don't remember how they are called in the US (the one I knoew was mentioned, in US its called Honda Fit, while in Europe it sometimes is called Honda Jazz).
she said "fuck cars" not "fuck in cars"
clearly this will be some form of polycule-mobile, given the "sharing with partner" aspect.
smh my head. cant even suggest a good vehicle to boink for these poor
chaposursapolygons, what is the world coming to:virgil-sad:
You want a hatchback or an SUV. Anything without a trunk that has foldable seats. It's a bit tight, but I've napped in the back of my Impreza hatchback before.
I worked with a guy who pretty much lived in a Honda Element as his house was ridiculously far away from where he could get a job. It wasn't the awesome-ist place to sleep but it was comfortable enough.
The boxy nature of the body gives it more headroom.
Gas mileage looks to be on the low side.
:michael-laugh:
Actually, he was a super cool guy and great to work with and was treated like shit to the point that he physically was having reaction to the artificial stress caused by management. It was a sad day when he finally couldn't take it anymore and left.
I'm 5' 10" and I fell asleep in the back of my partner's KIA Soul once
Boy did she get a spook that next day
Would probably work pretty well if you folded down the backseat and had a nice little sleeping bag
are tents out of the question? they make nice roomy "6 person" tents now that are super easy to set up even by your self
Depending what your normal car is, you could look at getting a roof rack tent.
also I'd feel safer in a car than in a tent since in a car I'm surrounded by tons of metal and glass while in a tent its just fabric between me and the elements.
Could definitely sleep in a Prius hatchback with the seats folded down
I really feel a van is the way to go, even over a wagon. A wagon/hatch will work for sleeping in, but it gets old really fast (personal experience). But a van has so much more room it actually makes staying in one for a while kinda nice.
