this has been bouncing around the internet for a while
link to the twitter thread where it's currently doing numbers (edit:fix'd link :honk-commie:)
the thread is full of two types of comment:
-
classic libs and libertarians unironically marking their spot
-
lefties gnashing their teeth in anguish over things like, oh, idk, Maoism to the right of NazBol, or whatever Anarcho-Posadism is...
a consistent tactic by fascists using the political compass is to either claim to be centrists or they'll claim to be something other than fascist because according to their metrics fascism is more left wing than they are
it's been pretty effective at confusing people and allowing fascists to have a presence in the more meme oriented political spaces
Why would you have anarcho-communism and anarcho-capitalism in the two bottom corners and not their authoritarian opposites, communism and fascism, in the opposing corners.
The whole thing becomes a wash (more so than claiming ancap is an ideology at all) as soon as you recognise that what they've decided represents the polar opposites is just garbage.
Basically the whole compass exists to justify the existence of the bottom right quadrant while also pulling double-duty to rehabilitate fascism by making it centre instead of far right.
The OBVIOUS starting point for creating a correct compass is to get the polar opposites correct at the very least.
They put a bunch of fash ideologies as left of center. The person who made this is 100% a fascist.
the starting point for creating a correct compass would be to disregard the whole thing and adopt a materialist method of analysis
Neo-nazis are more right-wing than 1930's Nazis.
Absolute monarchy is more authoritarian than nazism.
There are two different ideologies, one in the red square and one in the blue, that are both called kleptocracy (both are totally real ideologies with an internally coherent worldview btw. It's not just politicians being corrupt).
Social democracy is to the left of syndicalism.
Hindu theocracy is more right-wing than Christian and Islamist theocracy, but not as right-wing as Buddhist theocracy. Because reasons.
Technocracy is slightly left of centre.
Love to make distinctions between Classical Marxism, Orthodox Marxism, Council Communism, Luxemburgism and Left Communism
And boy they did Syndicalists dirty
Left communism is definitely separate from Classical Marxism but yeah the others are pretty much the same
oh and I'll take Hive-Mind Communism with Brain Tank characteristics, please.
Oh God do not look into Nick Land. Your brain will implode on itself
He's like some monarchist accelerationist alt-right techno geek idk
What's his logical backing to that? At least in his head?
I tried reading an (older) essay by that dude. Not sure what kinda bath salts he was riding on, but it was certainly not conducive to coherence
This is the plot of the George R.R. Martin novella A Song for Lya
Ghengis Khan-ism? IngSoc-ism? Monarcho-communism? Wtf? These are not real ideologies.
genghis khanist, where the man goodest at horses rules with an iron fist
What is eco-transhumanism? Uploading your consciousness into a biodegradable plastic bag?
