this post is like 5 years old now, very gnostalgic to see an approving outside observer of where we were at then

We need to do this more.

It's extra cathartic for me to piss off sexist chuds this way because I can remember when being found out as a girl on the internet meant being spammed with "tits or gtfo"

Ever meet a stale aging chanlord that still whines about how those were the good old days because that was the "ironic" norm, that and "gay" as a bad thing? grillman

        "You wouldn't last in a mw2 lobby"

Your right, anybody who wasn't an asshole immediatly muted everybody that wasn't on their friends list because they didn't want to listen to 12 year olds literally just scream the n word over and over again as many times as they could between rounds.

That's the epitome of culture they want to get back to.

I still get people in online games calling me gay these days and my response is always "yes, and?" They never know what to do. "Oh so you suck dick?" "Sure sometimes, you don't?" Like it just completely takes the wind out of their sails. They only have one insult and when it's not even an insult they don't have the creativity to figure out what to do next.

"It's called being a considerate lover. You sound like you're bad at sex" can also be a nice follow-up burn.

Sometimes when "gay bad" shows up in the internet wild, I say with sincerity that those scary gays are much more pleasant to be around then they are.

            Shuts them up.

/pol/ is proof that containment boards don't work. The moment the guard is down they become a colony. Better to bleach them out and let the survivors colonize a different chan.

"Everyone is a bad person on the internet, it's just the internet and everyone does that, if you take any action against bad things on the internet it won't work, dae le greater internet fuckwad theory" ideology was like an immune system disorder that helped allow nazi shit to flourish unchecked for years.

    Bring back "post hog"

Entitled debatebros think they deserve discourse, when all they deserve is relentless mockery.

It was fucking amazing when it actually worked and chuds posted their dicks. But it's a numbers game. Like Gretzky said, you miss every hog you don't post

Rember when they tried to say we were all pedophiles with the literal argument "one of those fascists they're saying post hog to could be underage"

I struggle with this because sometimes I do have a legitimate response to a chud arguing in bad faith, so I do the whole arguing for other people thing where I post a long argument mostly for other people to read rather than what I maybe should do, which is “post hog.”

There is a certain persuasive logic to chud arguments, and sometimes it feels like if I have a legitimate counter to them, even if i know they’re arguing in bad faith, I can’t help but post a long response so other people, maybe with less developed leftist thought at risk of falling for the chud arguments or something, will see

I think the downfall started when trolling breached containment of extremely online people to the wider world and was nigh-immediatly re-understood as "saying mean things or insulting someone", I guess because aforementioned power structures weren't really known?

You still hear Don't feed the trolls said occasionally but it's lost all meaning, because the word has, it's just an empty platitude now. Used to be good advice.

you just put that into perspective for me. I had always understood trolling in the older sense of the word, which is deliberately saying anything to get a rise out of people. Like pretending to be stupid, or pretending to be new in a forum when you've actually been there a while, asking dumb questions, or deliberately acting annoying. But now you're right. It just means any sort of insult or any kind of talk that isn't perfectly civil. That's why we get called trolls then, it's because we don't play that game where the first person to become uncivil automatically loses the argument.

Don't feed the trolls kinda falls flat when the king troll gets elected president, even though you refused to dignify him with a response.

Don't Feed The Trolls is about not falling into their trap such as long sincere replies. Counter-Trolling is about reversing the relationship; you get the troll to feed you.

I have a good friend who will often get debate bro or argue in bad faith (not about politics, about stupid stuff like comics and TV). When I sense the argument isn't going to go anywhere I've started just saying "wrong" or "incorrect" and not elaborating. It's really fun and it puts them on the defensive without me doing much effort.

Kinda works out, since I think Gnosticism is about remembering your prior existence beyond the mundane physical realm!
