You don't have a "pet", you just have a hostage

Spot is an indoor cat. Though I suppose given the holodeck, you could have the best of both worlds: a natural, explorable environment for the cat, holographic birds which are as needed replaced with replicated dead bird, without harm to any living birds. Best leave the safety protocols turned on, though.

Yes. And children. And objects. Do my dishes really want to be in my house or are they just there because I keep them there?

I've tried to take my kitty outside dozens of times over the years that i've had her and she absolutely refuses to participate, she hates every second of it. Even hanging out with us on the balcony in my last apartment. She does not like outside one bit.

It's true. Once a cat knows about outside they will want to be outside. I just try to keep my cats supervised. They don't go outside unless I'm home and I can keep an eye on them. The squirrels stay away while they're out there which is nice. And mostly the cats just sit in the sun and stare at gopher holes. They will catch the occasional lizard but they usually survive. If my cats want out they will scream and raise havoc until they are released so idk what other option I would even have. They can't be "indoor cats" anymore

My cat is the exact opposite. She came from outside and absolutely hates. You can leave the door wide open and she has zero interest going outside

Imagine being compelled by two creatures 5% your size.

      Assert dominance. Reestablish Indoor Cat-ism.

I'd let them out even if they didn't scream at me about it. I'm not going to deprive them of being outdoors

And by that logic, if I'm big enough, I don't have to listen to anyone?

Its a pet. One that is specifically devastating to the local environment if allowed outside.

No one forces you to own them. Take some responsibility. Or just get less devastating pets idk. Like a rabbit.

What do you expect me to do with the ones that I already have? There's a lot of cats on this planet, are they all supposed to just live in shelters? Not letting them go outside unsupervised is taking responsibility. Keeping them inside would be cruel. I know it all looks simple on top of your high horse but I'm just gonna keep doing what I'm doing. They're animals, they belong outside.

Outdoor cats are also indoor cats, as they are between some doors.

Aren't we all just in between the two great doors of conception and death?

The sparrow, flying in at one door and immediately out at another, whilst he is within, is safe from the wintry tempest, but after a short space of fair weather, he immediately vanishes out of your sight, passing from winter to winter again. So this life of man appears for a little while, but of what is to follow or what went before we know nothing at all.

Comrade with them old analogies :solidarity:

We used to let our cats out supervised since they would just run into the yard or hide in the bushes but eventually they got bored and just stayed in the house themselves, I guess it really is Stockholm. Maybe they would stroll out if you were out there for a while but most of the time it was just stay indoors where it's comfy.
