That's what freedom is! Instead of knowing they never could have saved their son, they instead get to live with the guilt of wondering for the rest of their lives if they could have saved their son if they took up a second full time job, or sold some blood plasma, or signed up for some pharmaceutical testing. If we coddle them and provide medicine for free, then who's to say they'd ever learn their lesson? Now they'll do a better job raising the next kid.
