A Thorough Look At Resident Evil

No disrespect to the people who enjoy this stuff, but I'll never understand this whole movie length YouTube video trend.
Background noise.
It is not that bad if the narrator and content is engaging and is something you care about.
7h is just insane and too long though, the complete LOTR trilogy extended edition is about 11 hours.
Sometimes content like this is all that gets me through my work day.
... actually...I guess that makes it counter revolutionary and therefore bad.....
Roz and Garreth Dennis having to drunk history the entire world history of the rail transportation.
I'll never get why people go after Noah for shit like this, especially when there are videos of equal length that literally do nothing but summarize the plot of games and call it "analysis." At least Noah writes well
I had it on in the background while I was sick as hell last week. There is no reason at all for it to be seven hours. He explains what each game is and that's pretty much it, not much for development history or anything. I thought it was a bunch of individual reviews compiled into one video
Edit: I was watching the Plinkett Picard review and he says the total run time of season 1 of Star Trek Picard is also 7 hours and 28 minutes.
Well, thats my favourite type of content, I love videos that drags on. But Noah is special case, he could narrate anything and I would absolutely listen to him wholeheartedly. He is really great writer.
I would say that publishing a 7 hour long video in a single part would disqualify someone from being a good writer.
I haven't played resident evil so I haven't watched it, but going by his other videos, there's typically a section for each game in a series.
With 8 RE games, that's less than an hour to discuss the design and experience of each.
It's not like Mauler talking about one Star Wars movie for 11 hours.
Noah's whole operation is very humble. He edits a whole video on a series instead of releasing videos in parts for whatever reason makes sense to him. I guess he views it as an overall piece and let's viewers jump back to it wherever they need.
But he's deliberately avoiding the extra ad revenue he could get by releasing separate videos (if he even has ads turned on).
I think that's bad pacing honestly. Would it not make more sense to quickly summarise and then lump the games into distinct sections:
- Classic 1-3
- Turning point 4
- Action crap 5-6
- Reinvention 7-8
This way you can avoid repeating yourself and discuss both the game individually and as part of a whole.
Like, if I were talking about the Fallout series I'd lump 1 and 2 together because they're basically the same game with minor differences you can cover in a short amount of time.
Idk if you're talking about the series as a whole then talking about the game individually seems like the wrong way to do it.
You do know you can subdivide videos into segments now right?
Personally I love these types of videos because I put them on in the background while I do other stuff. I'm not always paying attention, but whenever I'm getting bored I can tune back in. The longer the better so I don't need to take a minute to find something else to put on every 20 or so minutes. I've never even played a resident evil game, I don't game much at all, but I'll probably listen to this whole video lol
People like other people being enthusiastic over media they both like.
I need something to get through my shift. 7 hours of content sounds perfect
I used to really like his reviews but his Disco Elysium review was anticommunist dogshit.

Damn, I was hoping to learn something from this LotR trilogy-length video game review. Not going to bother now.
I need to rewatch the disco Elysium one because I didn’t find it to be “anti communist” like at all
He goes off for like five minutes about how communism can't work because "human nature".
Don't leap to judge just yet. He may not be a comrade but he still offers to a of insight. His review of the Kotor series and the star wars universe and it's foundations in Joseph Campbell was a bit of a revelation for me.
Haven't watched his disco Elysium episode yet because I don't want the game spoiled.

I might check it out anyway. I'm not sure I'll ever end up playing the game myself so a little spoilers won't bother me
I watched it in sections over the course of three days, it was indeed thorough
Noah's videos have this kind of rough, earnest charm that makes them endearing even when they're not always particularly insightful. That said, there's no way in hell I'm watching this.
He set it up so you can watch it in 30-60 minute chunks, and skip sections about RE games you don’t give a toss about. Plus I’d argue he’s pretty good at game and story analysis so it’s interesting if you’re into that kind of stuff.
I disagree, many of these "super long videos" are often just people taking what would otherwise be made in multiple videos and putting them together at once. (like this is about every single resident game released)
On the other hand there are some really poorly done ones where they add nothing useful but poor analysis is poor regardless of length after all, even short analysis can suck.
I gave it a quick look and thought it was just a review series he did that he put into one video. There isn't really any throughline
If someone makes a video that's too long than don't watch it. Don't worry you're not obligated to. Like I doubt I'll watch it at this length. On the other hand it also hurts literally no one for someone to make a 7.5 he long video.
That's how I'd watch it. Part 1-8 or so. Maybe my preference would be broken into a playlist of videos instead of one long one but again that's just preference.
budget Joseph Anderson, still waiting eagerly for 10 hours of Witcher 3
I'll give it a pass and mention that Resident Evil has a lot of games so just sticking to the main entries, that's like less than an hour per game.
This could've been worse, and I mean "summarizing every episode of iCarly for 4 hours and that's just the first two seasons" bad.
