There's a small but loud subset of the left that's just like that (see: Jimmy Dore going on Joe Rogan to hype up Ivermectin, or any weirdo on Twitter with a 🌺 in their name).

It matches up with what I saw in rl after the campaign ended. Some people who traveled and volunteered and everything ended up on the Trump train, others went back to normal scattershot american politics, and some folded back into the party. I think in general things are way more fluid than it seems, if MTG runs you'll probably have a lot of think pieces about how wild it is she's attracting people who voted for Obama and Bernie.
IIRC it happens basically every election cycle. People are politically incoherent, especially Americans.
