      I'd prefer the old clunky consoles full of knobs and switches because they're analogue and more trustworthy. I'm sure there's things you can do quickly by flipping a switch or pressing a button that has more safety and speed then clicking on the gear, going into user settings, control panel, oxygen and life support systems, system restore. FLIP THE SWITCH QUICKLY WE'RE DYING!!

        The worst part about touch screen control panels, and one that will probably get me killed if I ever get a new car with them, is that you need to look at them to make sure you hit the right controls.

        One thing I'm thinking about, is these systems are far more complex than their grandpas were, the amount of individual switches and wiring would be insane to manage every system with cool tactile autism busy boxes that people like me love to play with.

        I hhaaatte touch screens but they're saving possibly hundreds of pounds in wiring and interface components. A spare touch screen module in a space spec vehicle can probably be replaced fairly quick.

      I feel like the part in the expanse where Epstein kills himself (lol) accidentally by failing to reach the touchscreen while under heavy Gs kind of demonstrated one reason why touchscreen flight controls might be a bad idea

      To be fair, most of the controls in the expanse are using my dad's old flights sticks super glued to an office chair and voice control.
