Detective Pikachu was alright, they just need to use the Mario branding and take literally any random good script that wouldn't get funded otherwise and fit it in.
I feel like that's just becoming the norm now. All scripts are laundered through capeshit and existing IP because the corporate ghouls in charge are afraid of anything they don't have data on.
Kinda feel like they should have just used the It's Always Sunny cast.

There was already a shit Mario movie in 1993. They've ruined it once before already.
That movie was bad in a way that didn't ruin anything though. It just kind of existed in its own little void.
This movie is probably going to be just competent enough to get its hooks into the rest of the franchise, like how the MCU has ruined the comics of every superhero that's appeared in it.
No it won't. Remember Detective Pikachu. Also it's Mario, he runs to the right and tells 'wahoo'. Don't think it'll affect the games.
That movie at least failed in interesting ways.
