Not surprised at all. Ppl probably know about this one, but just in case, same with the racial bias: TL;DR: "Black Americans are systematically undertreated for pain relative to white Americans."
and if they're homeless too--an existential threat to the national security, no less. too powerful!
The undertreatment of pain in both cases is falsely represented as doctors perceiving the poor/African-Americans as being more tolerant to pain when it isn't. They simply have less empathy for these patients so they don't give a shit about their discomfort.
Hmm, it's almost like us poors are forced to endure more suffering than the rich.
Shocking stuff.
:thinkin-lenin: mutual aid group where poor people, POC, and women can get assigned a rich-looking white guy to yell at doctors to actually treat them properly
My dad has to show up to my mom's doctor's appointments to get them to take her seriously. It's so fucking stupid. Sexism and racism in the medical profession is rampant.
My best friend just got diagnosed with Krohn’s last year after like 5 years of begging her doctor to check for it and him refusing. It’s amazing how little women get supported.
It's almost like the richer you are, the less empathy you have for people with less money than you. But that can't be true, look how much money they give to charity!
"well, actually, the 'eye of the needle' was a gate near Jerusalem that was just very narrow and all he meant by that was that rich people need to donate some of their stuff so they can fit a slightly less loaded camel through the narrow gate!"
I mean, some of us probably are. Life is pain, especially when you're broke.

This also comes in handy when fighting a bone grinding civil war against reactionaries :)
I never got to go to the dentist as a kid and when I was first able to afford it one of the first few things my Dr asked me is how much pain I was in with a completely rotted out molar and I honestly told him it was a 0 but can be a 8 some days but goes away usually. He prescribed me 15 norcos and told me to take 2 when I got home after referring me to an endodontis (who also gave me more lol.) Dude literally didn't get he just gave me drugs to sell, I usually numbed it by swishing hard alcohol in my mouth for awhile. I just always thought that situation was wild cause I know that tooth looked bad but I got use to it I guess
