Yeah, I was kind of underwhelmed by that film too. While it's very cool to see people rioting against the rich to a soundtrack of '70s boomer rock I feel like a lot of leftists (Chapo especially) didn't realise that the audience is meant to be horrified by that and thought it was an anti capitalist movie rather than just massively doomer.
Guess Death of the Author is a thing and all but still.
I think the leftist messaging is accidental, but 100% in line with what is portrayed in the film. The movie mirrors Arthur's turn to violence with the strike/protests turning into riots, and seems to believe that this is the inevitable result of economic conditions deteriorating. It's half right, but the leftist addition is to note that the reason Arthur targets a rich guy he sees on TV instead of the people most directly responsible for his misery is because of his alienation. He's not part of a greater social or political project, so he (and, by extension, everyone who participates in the riot) can only resort to random acts of violence.

I still love the Chapo theory about that. It basically boils down to the message being 'you must become a turncoat and commit violent acts against the American Empire', which is hard for the culture at large to accept.

They're gonna pour more money into marketing it than any movie in history, there's gonna be tons of BS news stories and reviews and fake hype events for tiktok influencers and the movie will fucking bomb and they'll do everything they can to fudge the stats like releasing it on a streaming service and claiming zillions of people watched it there instead of in theaters.
Then, because the bills are already mostly paid for the sequels, James Cameron will spend ten years doing shit eating grin interviews as he is forced by his producers to finish the fucking series even though they know they'll never get their money back, and it will be the funniest thing that happens during the 2020s.
