I love it here, bums me out a little when I shill for this place on Reddit and the top reply is always just "don't go to chapochat the mods are worse than the stasi".

“don’t go to chapochat the mods are worse than the stasi”

lol where are you shilling? COMPLETEANARCHY?

I know a bunch of GenZedongers don't want to move here, but that's probably more because the mods aren't stasi enough.

I can’t call everyone I disagree with an anarkiddie and a fed? What radlib op is this mod team pulling?

When I see a dumb take on GenZedong, I try to keep in mind it's literally a Gen Z subreddit and therefore probably full of children. :shrug-outta-hecks:

I mean I don't keep a spreadsheeet it's just the pattern I've noticed every time it comes up. The top comment is almost always some person complaining either about us all being tankies or about the mods power tripping or whatever.

There’s a couple users who are either just constantly browsing their Reddit subscriptions by new or have a keyword notification set up for Hexbear and go talk shit on every post. It’s a thing, but not so much ubiquitous as it is repetitive

      That’s a really unfair comparison.

The Stasi had the full backing of the USSR, jurisdiction over a whole country and got to hunt actual physical Nazis.

Our mods don’t get paid, have jurisdiction over 1 20,000 member website and have to deal with people being shitty online.

They try their best, and we appreciate what they do but it’s completely unreasonable to expect them to be as cool as the Stasi.

glad we have some posts like this to counter the "site is dying/dead/never actually was alive" alarms that get rung here sometimes

Those posts are a self-fulfilling prophecy if they happen enough. It’s weird how propagandized we are that growth is NECESSARY or you will PERISH. Nah, we’ve been hovering around the same daily active user count for like 6 months with a very slight upward tick. It would be nice to grow, but it’s by no means necessary for continued operations.

Also, communities can definitely get way too big - I don't use the discord, or indeed the trashfuture discord, because things move so fast you can't have an actual conversation. Obviously, forums are a lot more resilient to that but it's still a thing - no fun when logging off for half a day means fifty posts have been made and pushed off the front page.

Aka every time an old chapo head says "I remember chapo when it was cool, and that's before all you libs showed up"

Nah, it always sucked. I'm talking about communities becoming so busy it actually becomes difficult to engage with them meaningfully.

I think that the appearance of fewer upbears on all the top posts is due to c/main no longer existing. There isn't any less VOTEing going on, it's just spread out amongst more comms and posts, which is a really good thing.

I like it here. People who are rude to me usually get banned, and I learn a lot of interesting things. It's good to have a space where people are on my side of things.
