Fun fact, China, India and Thailand are the countries that read the most. When someone posted this on r/mapporn they got swamped with china bad comments.
The gommunists have probably banned all the good authors like ayn rand too smh
Well sure, they're probably forced to read commie stuff like Michelle Obama's biography
China and India have very ambitious education policies and strong nationalist cultures.
I have to wonder if a lot of American decline is parallel with the collapse of national identify. When everyone hates each other, it's hard to do anything productive or long term.
Uh excuse me we have Tom Clancy, who is a great patriotic American who writes great patriotic novels.
James Patterson doesn't write most of his novels either. He'll be the next Clancy once he dies.
It's funny, they tried to the same thing with Stieg Larson in Sweeden but stopped after two continuations. Probably because they didn't feel like Stieg's three.
BleachJojo's Volume 3 was the last Great American Novel.#YouTried ☕☕;)
You know what's a Great American Novel - EL Doctorow's Ragtime. Read it as a teenager (after my school did the musical based on it lol) and was shocked by how critical of America it was. It was also the first time I'd heard of Emma Goldman! I should reread it sometime, see what I get out of it now.
I think there's still great America-critical novels being written.. They just don't get the same kind of attention as novels going "America Is Flawed But Still Good" haha
There will never be another great American novel because we will abolish the ideal of greatness
who needs another great american novel when you have prestige television, that's where all good american stories happen. on hbo.
Every time Brandon Sanderson mentions somethings length in miles I groan
Actually there was never a "Great American Novel" to begin with.
