    Fun fact, China, India and Thailand are the countries that read the most. When someone posted this on r/mapporn they got swamped with china bad comments.

      China and India have very ambitious education policies and strong nationalist cultures.

      I have to wonder if a lot of American decline is parallel with the collapse of national identify. When everyone hates each other, it's hard to do anything productive or long term.

    You know what's a Great American Novel - EL Doctorow's Ragtime. Read it as a teenager (after my school did the musical based on it lol) and was shocked by how critical of America it was. It was also the first time I'd heard of Emma Goldman! I should reread it sometime, see what I get out of it now.

    I think there's still great America-critical novels being written.. They just don't get the same kind of attention as novels going "America Is Flawed But Still Good" haha
