I used to read a lot before high school, and when I would it would be in long sessions. I find these days that when I read, I can buckle down for a couple chapters but then I get restless and search for something to distract me. It'd be wonderful if I could do something stimulating other than looking at phone or playing vidya during those moments when I need to break
How do you break up your time reading? Do you do it at all? Gimme ur tips and anecdotes
Have multiple different books available so when you compulsively start trying to swap to something else you just end up reading another book instead of doomscrolling or whatever.
I try not to use the computer on the weekend and it helps my overall ability to concentrate.
I usually get up every 45 mins and walk around, walk up a stairs, make coffee or another hot drink, hang from a chin up bar, roll on a mat making stretching noises. Finding a way to be outside for 45 mins activity during peak sunlight (in less sunny areas) helps a lot with focus and concentration too.
For me, keeping physically activated (broscience) and keeping warm, keeping the blood flowing and not entering a sedentary state, is the biggest part of motivation and focus for reading or working at a desk.
It's usually easier to drop distractions when you've gone to so much trouble to get activated, caffeinated, irradiated and properly rested lol.
8 hour reading sessions in high school gang too.
Lofi youtube stream and prioritize engaging reading at first to get back into it.
ADHD prevents breaks from being possible, so I just hope I hyperfocus long enough to chew through the book in one sitting. If it's an easy book, I listen to it as an audiobook during road trips, but for harder books, I take notes.
