wants
it's so ridiculous that even the people doing the pitching can't commit to "will"
My fil always hits me with this “he wants to, he wants to but you have to understand, we don’t have the votes!” Always money for war tho, never an explanation how republicans ram their agenda through even at times when they’re a minority.
If only the pesky Congress were majority Democrat seats, like in the first part of his presidency!! But wait, even then it doesn't count because those gosh darn rotating villains in the party foil the vote every time!! Do not ask why they are allowed to remain in the party and retain their committee seats if they're directly stopping the things the party and president want to get done, that's Ruzzian propaganda!!
I backed him into a corner about obamas super majority and not following through on his promises and the best I can get is “idk why they didn’t” lol
Uhhhhh Anyway vote blue no matter who!!
“idk why they didn’t”
We both know the real reason but if you want to remind him what he's supposed to believe, I remember the propaganda back then. The Democrats were "attempting to be bipartisan" by letting "Republicans provide input" on their policies. Prevailing wisdom from the talking heads and adults in the room was that it was the way government was "supposed to work", and if Republicans ever had one "they would do the same"
and if Republicans ever had one "they would do the same”
Impressive of the talking heads of the day to get this out with a straight face lol
obamas super majority and not following through
joe lieberman was too powerful for them.
Do not ask why they are allowed to remain in the party and retain their committee seats if they're directly stopping the things the party and president want to get done, that's Ruzzian propaganda!!
Sinema left the party and they still let her keep her committee seats. It's the easiest form of punishment for politicians who don't fall in line, but they just don't do it.
Don’t worry, they’ll remove the real dangers from committee seats, like anyone who says that Palestinians are people
Naturally and yet biden uses special executive privilege primarily for getting funding through (even when we obv know congress would broadly support it), never for anything that would benefit someone who wasn’t ruling class which is what my issue was
You're the president you don't need a pitch mf if you want to do these things fucking do them jfk
US presidents have absolutely no power to actively change things. Unless they have the other team's lawn sign color. In which case they are existential threats to Democracy®™.
Donald Trump would become President and then BREAK THE LAW. This is why you need to VOTE. Only your vote can stop Donald from doing crime.
The powers of the presidency are whatever the president feels like they are. Libs get upset when you say this.
Wow these are some hilariously small potatoes compared to his 2020 promises that he never even got close to attempting to achieve. The best part is 2 of these are "wants to do" as opposed to "is doing" or "will continue to do" which is even more outrageous since he didn't do any of the things he said he wanted to do in 2020. Even a goldfish would be smart enough to see through this nonsense
It's really frustrating that "Roe Vs Wade" was kind of the last gasp of political engagement. I think a lot of people felt powerless after it was overturned. To me at least it felt like "Yeah, even the thinnest and flimsiest of shields is too much for these vampires, then won't even let us have that". I think a lot of people checked out then.
Every ballot with a state level abortion referendum has drawn record voter turnout for a non-presidential election year.
True! State protections are good, and necessary, but in my (uneducated) opinion they insufficient. I think people need both State and Federal protections of reproductive rights. It really sucks they didn't even really try codify it when they had the votes.
Yeah, but it does go to show that people make the effort to vote when it is direct democracy, rather than a fake choice between the uni-party.
Biden is taxing corporations & wants billionaire tax
From WaPo:
In a fiscal review of the policy, the nonpartisan Joint Committee on Taxation estimated last year that about 150 corporate taxpayers could be forced to pay the new tax, later finding it could generate more than $222 billion in federal revenue over the next decade.
From POTUS Twitter:
A billionaire minimum tax of just 25% would raise $440 billion over the next 10 years.
Imagine what we could do if we just made billionaires pay their taxes like everyone else.
The US treasury, thanks to the 5% Fed rate hike, handed out $1 TRILLION interest income payment to the rich people just in 2023 alone.
This is a joke. They’re getting back much much more than however much is being taxed from the proposals.
I love that they are campaigning on all these vague "wants" that Biden apparently has, but for whatever reason he never seems to act upon.
Now now, it’s a little hasty for us to expect him to act on all of his wants in the mere 50 years he’s been a politician
At first glance, this seems like a replay of Obama's appeals to economic populism from 2012. This time it seems rather farcical though.
Biden does not have the benefit of going against someone as transparently elite and devoid of charisma as Mitt Romney.
Still absolutely insane that they have to do a write-in campaign for the incumbent president in one of the early bellwether-type primaries. And all so they could push south Carolina up sooner? Why??
I think primarily because he won South Carolina in 2020 and the voting process is a long drawn out horse race where people will recalibrate their votes depending on who's winning, instead of just having them all at once which would prevent certain states from having an outsized presence.
But it's not like Marianne Williamson or Dean Phillips were gonna win out over Brandon. The Dem primary for this cycle is purely ceremonial, so why change how it's being run?
Dems had the best midterms of all time letting the culture war stuff be fought without the formal bullhorn of the White House. Abortion activists are undefeated, the Republicans are cannibalizing themselves on the issue, and it's smarter to just keep Biden quiet and not spook the normal whites.
Having said that, crusading against junk fees is about the stupidest fucking thing I could think of.
Abortion activists are undefeated.
Even if every blue state (and a purple state or two) passes state laws - the situation remains the Sword of Damocles. Federal law trumps state law. Eventually the GOP will control Congress and the White House. And then they'll pass a federal law and abortion will be banned nationwide. It's what the worst of the hogs want and they'll get it because they are the energy of the republican party.
I hear you, I just don't think Biden being the messenger on the issue is a tactically astute choice.
I sincerely don't understand you. Biden and the dem machine keeps saying this is the most important election of our lifetime and democracy itself is on the line. Even before the Gaza war the eventual Biden/Trump election was likely to be very close. And now the war (and Israel) are wildcards that make things even worse for Biden. The war would expand at any time and continue all the way to election day. Biden might have already lost Michigan due to his huge losses in the local Arab vote.
Yet Biden is effectively saying "In this time of rising fascism with threats to democracy - I got a plan, jack. Raising taxes on the rich, Big Pharma stuff, and fees are more important than abortion which I'll only make vague statements about." How is that anything other than huge loser of a message? How does it drive turnout? How does it accomplish anything?
