A fair chunk of my money is in my boss' bank, invested into his business, or other undisclosed properties.
Small chunk in a checking or savings account for things that pop up like a car repair or new shoes or whatever (you decide what small means, idk your financial situation) then just put the rest in a Roth IRA and a 401k if your job does that
I keep all my cash in The Bank, which is what I've nicknamed my ass.
Okay this is something I can weigh on [advice only relevant for people with access to banking and some kind of existing savings]
Taking your money and "putting it in a couple different places" is a very bad idea if you're thinking of keeping it in a soooper seeecret spot around the house or under ur mattress. My mother lost $10k that way because a drug addicted family member was looking for anything to get a fix. And, because it was hidden, she wasn't able to report when she lost it or otherwise gather evidence for law enforcement reasons on what happened. It just went poof, and that bastard got their fix for a long time.
Most of your money should be in a damn bank. Don't fall prey to gold bug ancap shit about needing things physically around you, or needing physical possession of significant amounts of money at all times, or "not trusting a bank" out of pure Great Depression sensibilities. If banks fail, there's the FDIC that will insure any loss that is under $250,000. If the fucking FDIC fails, there's no use for the dollar because the republic would have fallen.
I invest most of my money at the liquor store down the street.
I got money under the sink, I got money under the bathtub, I got money in the laundry, in the shower, IN the bathtub, in the cistern of the toilet and the bowl, I got money in all my plumbing, I got money under my tiles, in my walls, in the heating elements. I got money everywhere! I got money under my dinner table, in my cupboards, the fridge, the freezer, the microvave, oven, under my chairs. I got money in my living room, in my Xbox, my Wii U, my TV has a room for just money. People find quarters inbetween the couch pillows, I found about $1000 by accident. I got money in the bookshelf, all my books don't have pages, I ripped them out to fit more money in them, wanna read some Dickens? Fuck you, it's just money. I got money in my bedroom, stuffing the pillows, my covers, my matress, cash under the bed and the nightstand, my closet has clothes. And all the clothes are stuffed with money. They call me Money, cause I have so much money. I don't have a lawn, cause I dug it all up to bury money under there, I think a money tree is gonna grow there cause of all the money under there. I got a car, but I can't drive it cause I got rid of the engine to fit more money in the car. I got money in the stove, when Santa comes down the chimney, he has to give up cause he can't get through all the bills i stuffed up there.
And yes, I do have about 20 bucks in the bank, gotta keep some savings.
No really if you have extra savings put some into tangibles, not just fiat. Rest of the world is getting rid of the US dollar but very very slowly. China owns so much US debt they won't just dump it out of the blue. But it's inflating anyway, thank printer go brr.
please don't tempt me to "invest" my money in a bunch of guns
no, stop, don't
Tangibles is the best thing you can do, get a new fridge for $800 now before inflation makes the $800 worth a pair boots. And on the off chance shit devolves into a civil war or WW3 you'll have the shit you need already.
I keep about three months worth of expenses in the bank, plus a little bit for emergencies. But most of it I sink into the property as I'm trying to get as self sufficient as possible, so things like a new green house and nice tiller. My dad died so I got my inheritance last year, right now it's in a 401k but I'm going pull it out soon so I can get solar.
something something Credit Union. I haven't paid an ATM or deposit fee or any bullshit like that for my entire life.
My retirement money's split between three accounts though which is annoying.
Checked out the local credit union, they require employment stability that I can't prove. :/
Some in the bank, some in the credit union, some in prize bonds and some in PMs. Have a small bit of cash on hand. Don't mess with stocks because I believe they're overinflated in value due to the low banking interest rate and don't mess with crypto because it's the fucking tulip mania, only at the end you're not even left with worthless tulip bulbs.
Half my savings are in the bank, half I have in cash. I don't have anything against people investing in 401ks or stocks but personally I just don't fuck with a stock market that I know is exploiting the fuck out of people all over the world.
