A left oriented friend of mine posted photos of Ritenhouse chud guy with a caption along the lines of "see? not boogaloo". I recognize that there are differences between straight up wannabe cop bootlickers and boogaloo, but especially as a Canadian who hasn't encountered these people, I don't think I understand what these boogaloos are all about and whether they're shit. Please help me

there's this movie from 1984 called "breakin 2: electric boogaloo" which is infamous for being an overly stereotypical 80s movie, but more importantly for having a funny name that rhymes. in the early 2010s people rediscovered it and started making memes along the lines of "_______ 2: electric boogaloo" and eventually 4chan neo nazis and would-be proud boys found it and started making "civil war 2: electric boogaloo" memes and threads where they fantasized about killing all the people they think are destroying america, such as leftists, liberals, and of course black people. the boogaloo movement isn't really an organized thing, but just something that overly online reactionaries like to joke about, and sadly once in a while act upon.

the hawaiian shirts are from boogaloo boys playing around with the word boogaloo and eventually arriving at the phrase "big luau" to use as a corny dog whistle. again, it's just memes - not that we shouldn't take it seriously, but it's really not an organization; to try to analyze it as an organization would be like the chuds who are trying to hunt down antifa leaders, which of course is nonsense because that also isn't an organization.

They don't really have a specific set of beliefs outside of guns are good, federal agents with guns are bad. They fetishise civil unrest and violent resistance against the state, and are all eager for excuses to get to shoot people. They have a million esoteric in-jokes. They used to be polititically somewhat neutral, but because most people in the US are right wing, naturally more right wing people ended up part of that community. Eventually chuds took over the community entirely, and for a few years now they constantly make references to the "boogaloo" being some sort of race war, and that they are thus itching for excuses to shoot minorities.

They still don't have anything approaching a coherent set of beliefs, they tend to be rather nihilistic and actively mock and shun anyone who tries to have a serious discussion about anything.
