The mods of /r/antiwork shut it down until the heat dies down because of the immense amount of harassment. I think it'll come back and the splinter communities will just kinda hang around on the fringes.

As for your question, the worst thing you can do to a Redditor is call them cringe. I 100% guarantee that the people getting the most bent out of shape about the interview are all people who see some aspect of themselves that they hate in that mod and are taking it out on them. Add to that the fact that they all perceive this as their entire subreddit getting represented as cringey, and the act of attacking the mod can be cast as a form of defense of the community. "We aren't like that, see how we're laughing at them too?"

maybe they will notice how instantly trash and astroturfed those splinters, especially 'workreform', become and that will trigger some deeper systemic, materialist analysis and consciousness

      not likely, but hey, maybe!

It wasn't the mod having a bad interview that caused it, it was transphobic ableist brigaders and libs who never posted in the sub but now suddenly wanted all the mods to resign for some very strange reason.

This right here, as well as the pop up of lib oriented labor subs seems to be either a intentional or unintentional attack on the sub after it gained way too many followers than media channels were comfortable seeing.

It didn’t, the mod has absolute power over the sub and all the other mods, and decided to shut down the sub after banning like half the members for criticising her

It wasn't. The userbase flipping their shit is almost as bad as the mods doing the interview without consulting the community.

Fox news was never going to be sympathetic.

This would have blown over in a few days but they inexplicably chose to close the sub instead. I have no idea what the rationale there was.

it's ego of the mods closing ranks. they should have just had a mega-thread and some humility, but instead they self-destructed under pressure

From my experience being fairly active in their discord until I got banned for talking about how whitewashing the armed elements of the early twentieth century labor movement and civil rights movement are bad actually.

None of this surprises me at all. I didn't anticipate it being such a public implosion but it was clear it was a hostile place for anyone doing any sort of educating or agitating.

they were almost too sympathetic, the anchor was cringing and giving life advice and going easy. The worst thing you can be on the internet is pathetic.

They closed the sub because the mod is embarrassed and wants to ban everyone for talking about what a terrible job they did. Bannings made the shit talking get worse and they just shut it all down.

the foundation of their "movement" (reddit-brain slacktivism) is rotten. Having an opinion on internet drama is more important than solidarity... which, I mean can be said lost of bougie-western activism probably.

A lot of it is definitely astroturfing, and like other people said, average chud redditors coming in to stir stuff up and get more people to get on board with their bigotry. When you're weak, your enemies see that as a chance to pounce. All the bigots on antiwork probably see it as an opportunity to voice their bigotry and hatred of left politics.

Honestly the sub clearly has weak leadership. If I was them I would be bringing the ban hammer down hard on all these stupid "replace the mods" posts, which seem to exist to suffocate the subreddit by keeping actual content off the front page. Every single post is now just "replace the mods" with around 5000 upvotes. Hopefully it dies down in a few weeks or something lol.
