Edit: apparently I’m getting a lot of hate for my title and the connection of Porsche headlights and weed growing. I didn't want to attack anyone personally, I just wanted to show how easy it is to steal headlights for several thousand Euros. The only explanation we got was the story that it can be used for cultivation. It was not my intention that all hobby growers and light experts should come forward and teach me.
they might be really efficient, making them harder to detect by the authorities via energy consumption measurement of households, but... You can just buy LED grow lights. I'm guessing people just sell them for cash

Headlights or any form of artificial light is needed for indoor growing. That way you can manipulate the light cycle of the plant (12 hours on, 12 hours off or 16 hours on, 8 hours off or even 5 hours on 1 hour off, though I don't think that last one would work). Porsche headlights are probably used because they are very powerful and relatively easy to remove, though I'm not sure about that.
Edit: you probably wouldn't want to use headlights though, would be a nightmare to get working properly and the title of the post is probably a "reddit moment"

how did they even get those out, don't you have to get in from behind to undo screws n shit?
They're super easy to remove, just one bolt head inside the hood operates a lever that latches the whole assembly in place. There's not even a cable, it just pushes into a connector mounted in the back of the cavity.
Quick follow-up question: How hard is it to get the hood open from the outside?
yeah i think you could do it with some a long thin tool with a hook but i dont know anything about how the hoood opening mechanism works
I assume they're not even opening the hood, just somehow forcing the lever through the gap on the outside.
Maybe from below? Not sure how these Porsches look from the underside but if there's not too much plastique protection shit going on that could work too
It's a Porsche, I wouldn't be surprised if the entire underside is covered for good aerodynamics.
have you thought about a private crash test community where a selection of folks like those on the beta server would experiment around in the current build?
I can't imagine that with the shitty PPFI you'd get out of headlights, that this would be a good idea.
