Reminder that even the most digustingly corrupt apparatchik's life of "luxury" paled in comparison to the decadence of any capitalist country's bourgeoisie
One thing I like about The Death of Stalin is that is shows that the folks at the highest pinnacle of power in the Communist party like Khrushchev and Molotov lived in modest apartments in Moscow. And that was just as true of the premiers, too, up to and include Gorbachev.
One of my history professors loved to mention every time the Soviet Union was brought up that the party leaders (in like the 80s) had Black Sea dachas, as if that was some disgustingly extravagant display of wealth that is even remotely comparable to our politicians in the US.
I have no idea where he lives but I recall reading that he only makes like $20,000 a year.
Yeah the state no doubt has his room and board covered, do you know if he also collects salary from his other positions?
Aus politicians (I’m sure it’s the same around the world) also get obscene pensions for the rest of their lives even if they weren’t in office long
What the fuck South Africa, tbh I expected nothing less from lonmin shareholder Ramaphosa who demanded that “concomitant action” must be taken against the Marikana miners (the action ‘naturally associated’ with a situation like this). He also referred to them as “plainly dastardly criminals”. The next day the Marikana massacre happened. How tf did Cyril Ramaphosa become head of the ANC and president after that I'll never know.
This doesn't even count that former presidents make $220k a year in pensions, starting from the day they leave office.
My grandfather was took over a small city as the highest ranking Communist party member (that is to say mid level) in the city after the nats abandoned everything and retreated to Taiwan.
He said housing etc were provided and there was a dole of food
Isn't it one of those open secrets that a lot of higber communist party members are ridiculously wealthy?
