As someone who grew up as a girl playing games with male leads and having no trouble relating to them, I have to laugh that these babies can't handle a single game with a female lead that isn't pure horny-bait.

Like holy shit bro, can you imagine how boring it would be for developers if the only main character they were allowed to make was a 38-58-year-old gruff white guy?

No more wacky cartoon plumbers, no more purple dragons, no imagination. No more character designers innovating. Just a tough white guy doing a US army commercial. Boring.

im a trans woman and hate playing games with male leads since i was a kid lmao. so i can understand a degree of the angst. also dislike it when every woman in a game is a extremely horny bimbo. i mean, its relatable content as a bimbo myself, but still pretty annoying how every character looks the same and the only distinguishing features are haircut and outfit

id make exceptions for games that have female characters you play but also male characters. or monsterish characters and nonhuman/cartoony characters. just didnt like the prospect of being forced into some gruff old army guy's shoes

however the fact is women as a sole lead is incredibly rare. from my childhood i could count those games all on one hand. so the dudebros are just going stir crazy over the smallest slights

Pretty much. Though it's not as bad as it once was, most that have a single protagonist have a male protagonist. It's especially bad in JRPGs. Women/fems getting even the occasional lead character to relate to is really just too much for these losers

honestly lowkey think it was cause Satoshi Tajiri was just channeling his childhood memories and instincts into a game. and kids are surprisingly leftist just from the get-go if you dont constantly prompt them. asking why in the most annoying fashion possible is a leftist past time after all

This comment reminded me of a YouTuber that does drawing tuts and used to work in the games industry. He has videos for drawing male and female forms and the make video is filled with this wide range of body types, broad shouldered barrel chested, slandered, squat, what have you

And the female video is 5 different women that look exactly like you think except one or two have slightly bigger thighs lol

    "Unrealistically diverse"

It's a fucking game where literally all biomatter was consumed by robots leaving the earth sterile, and an automated AI had to print out and gestate new humans along with all other organic life on earth.

This is like the scifi equivalent of morons saying its "unrealistic" that black people exist in a fantasy series like Game of Thrones.|

It's just racism because they dont want to see or think about black and brown people.

It's worse. Literally in the first game when you're going through the different subfunctions of Gaia, the guy in charge of the one that will produce and gestate humans says its very important to preserve genetic diversity

In fact Ted Faro was a massive egomaniac who deleted the entire cultural knowledge of humanity (Subroutine Apollo) to "free" humanity from its previous mistakes and believed he was better suited to lead humanity.

And its gets even more fucking coconuts in the second game with Ted Faro

Sealing himself in a secret Egyptian pharaoh esque bunker underneath the ruins of San Francisco where he ruled over his servants terrorizing them with forced "off switches" in their skulls in order to use them for medical experimentation so he could achieve immortality which ended up horribly wrong and becoming an immortal blob of human flesh in constant pain, feeding off the power produced by the geothermal plant in the bottom of his bunker.

Gets offended when "offensive" races and people are put in, demanding to NOT be challenged on their worldviews.

i cant believe aloy doesnt have a 2 inch waist wanna see the CURVATURE IN HER SPINE, i absolutely HAVE to see the cylindrical structure of her VERTEBRAE! it is the only thing that makes a woman a woman and a man a cummer

also why would anyone play this its on playstation. i love playing games with female leads but theyre ALWAYS on fucking playstation exclusive. it feels like im expected to own a beefy computer, an xbox, a playstation, a vr set, a billion peripherals, and THEN i have to shell out 60 dollars per game and then buy their 30-40 dollar expansions. how absurd

From the few minutes of streams I've checked out it looked like such a faithful and well-made continuation of the first part - and the graphics are pretty nuts too. Like, what more do you want - does it need an ingame strip club for these people to be happy, I don't get it

I'm out of the loop on new games, but what is the g*mer outrage here? Are they really up in arms about diversity in a game with a WHITE female lead? Are there really so few games with female protagonists still that this is still an issue?

There's a ton of POC secondary characters they could be mad about. But, it literally takes place in America 1000 years in the future, so it's not a shock they're there. I guess it's a shock to see non-white people in Colorado, but the sequel is in California anyway.

Also I think some of these guys are mad that "how could a woman with their lower muscle mass and bone density take down a titanium plated robot dinosaur" (as if a man could).

I'm looking at the graphics now and it is utterly gorgeous. I like the premise too, and making it a WASP fantasy world would sterilize its richness.

It's also essentially a global warming allegory, it would hurt the message unless you had a diverse cast and a variety of cultures present. Like it takes place in a small area, but these are supposed to represent all of the people in the world affected by corporate greed (capitalism, but the gamedevs are probably libs and probably would add some additional descriptor like crony or whatever).

I think the previous game lucked out bc it dropped around the time botw came out and there was discourse then that the next Zelda game should be centered on playing Zelda and that probably got the Gamers attention

But it’s really good and was pretty much the best distillation of the Ubisoft style open world game up to that point imo. Little things like making the towers interactive tall dinos you had to climb that had at least a bit of a skill curve instead of just climbing the 27th landmark tower.

It had some goofy story things tho, the bit in the beginning when they tutorialize seeing the dinobots walking path and you’re just kind of sneaking through the grass but the companion character is steadily losing his shit like “what the FRICK?! HOW are you DOING this alloy!!” Like it’s some crazy achievement comes to mind lol

Ima wait til it drops on pc tho bc my ps4 dies constantly and I ain’t buying no console for a single game lol

Imo the best part of the first game is that it didn't feel like it was just wasting your time with pointless stuff. There was a relatively small collection of side quests, the optional dungeons were intricate and felt meaningful, the amount of collectibles was reasonably low, and there wasn't an overwhelming amount of skills or gear choices. Like it's just nice the gear was a clear direct upgrade path, it wasn't a full rpg and it knew that it didn't need you to spend time min-maxing.

Umm, the design choices for gear and skills differ in the second one, it's still not ridiculous. The gear for the most part is still designed around the same philosophy of each piece being a tool with a really specific purpose, but there's some added complexity with skill points and different bow types using similar arrow types.
