Portland is pretty fucking trashed up.

Wonder if it has anything to do with the sky-high housing prices and limited homeless services (especially post-pandemic, when the city lost literally half its shelter beds), or the discontinuing of public hygiene services, or the lack of safe and hygienic places for houseless people to stay without being harassed?

Nah, homeless people just scary and bad.

Imagine uninstalling all the toilets in an apartment building and then getting mad that shit started piling up around the block

Have they tried raising their property values again? It'll work some day for San Francisco. Trust me.

bro just move them to Modesto/Manteca/Turlock/etc. until you have Detroit tier ghettos all over the Central Valley

finna make the entire immediate area outside of the Bay look like the worst parts of Stockton

I mean, having a large homeless population around does suck for everyone involved.

WHICH IS ONE OF MANY REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD JUST FUCKING HOUSE THEM

Fine, give them free housing, then they won't be homeless and you won't have to see them as much.

"No, I was implying that I wanted them to be homeless somewhere else."

This just reminded me of a recent thread on reddit where the article was claiming there had been cost overruns etc. in an LA project to house homeless people. The figure in the headline was something like "LA spends 700k per person to house homeless people" or something along those lines.

I think the huge figure caught people on their back foot and it didn't occur to me until later that they could've easily quoted the lifetime cost to house a prisoner, or some other cost frequently associated with homeless people for the sake of comparison but they didn't :citations-needed:

That's a thing, right? Commentary on things that will help people get talked about in terms of bulk expenses but something like prison or whatever gets broken down into yearly chunks.

someone in /leftypol/ said that they might be home to (some of) the most radical leftists in the West

I think this place might be too

that's a seriously depressing thought lmao

you can find people pretty far along the far right pipeline on normie ass places, finding an unironic RedFash™ outside of those two aforementioned websites is like finding a needle in a haystack

Leftypol is fine but they do occasionally hold reactionary threads that I stay away from. I usually think it's one or two people since every time I call out their reactionary nonsense they just repeat the same insults of how you're an ivory tower academic for not supporting the fascist white working class in America.

I don't know, but I would guess that they harbor some of the "anti-idpol"/"stupidpol" brainwormed types, which isn't that far off, but not the same. Those kinds of things have a bit of an ebb and flow to them (same can be said here/on the sub) so idk what the current status is.

They absolutely hate stupidpol too, they realized that entirely focusing your discussion around culture war inevitably leads to reactionary discussions and complete abandonment of leftist theory so they usually don't bring it up all the time (which unfortunately leads to a poverty of feminist theory or queer theory but I haven't really learned much from this place too)

it's an imageboard so it can be kind of a chaotic free for all but in general, not really

there's a decent amount of trans/gay people who post there...problem is being an imageboard it attracts a certain type of person (edgelords and people who quite literally aren't bothered by anything) along with wreckers and other idiots that tend to run free to higher degree than most leftist spaces

overt racism/homophobia isn't explicitly against the rules (keep in mind that it is on 4chan and well...you know how well that works out) but posting shit like that will pretty quickly earn you a ban since a lot of the reactionary/opportunist mods were purged in the last two leadership splits

I like the place, but it's very much a mixed bag and not as much of "safe space" as other leftist spaces. I think this is by design since it avoids non-stop circle jerking. There have been some pretty interesting threads that came out of Nazi posters getting dunked on for 500 replies
