What do you expect from the same people who say "-940952349503252 social credit" yet can't buy a house because they pay all their cards on time.

If you ask libs what "free speech" means, they will almost always say it's unfettered right to criticize the government, that's what separates us from those evil gommunist countries. What they don't get is we only have the "free speech" we do because it's not really a threat to capital at the moment. And to extent that it is a threat, MSM and tech companies do a fine job of squashing what power wants squashed. If speech becomes too dangerous and if the private sector can't contain say emerging class consciousness, then the government will step and abandon free speech to the degree that libs only dream goes on in places like China.

So basically this is going to be it for the future of western internet, anything that goes against state department propaganda will be censored. We're seeing it play out in real time on twitter, reddit, etc. I can only hope dual structures will be built as a life raft for people escaping this.

The precedent has been solidified, over time the censorship will extend to more and more leftist subs, even socdems won't be safe in the long run when the focus shifts back to domestic politics and anyone who isn't a never-Trumper republican or a DNC loyalist consumer starts to question MSM excuse narratives on the inevitable defeat of the Democrats during midterms, BLM, climate activism, drug legalization, etc. all of it will be subsumed under the label of RUSSIA from now on

Brace yourselves, anyone not parroting the official line of corporate DC access media will be labeled a Russian bot and censored accordingly, we're in new territory now and this time those freeze dried peaches really are being confiscated

I like how Reddit has no default quarantine message, so every sub you see the current brainworms. "High volume of information not supported by credible sources almost reads like a complement.

since this made me think about quarantines again. imaged the shitstorm if they quarantined Ukraine right now, because that sub violates every criteria: Racism, harassment, calls for violence, violent content. not subtly either, mods are stickying stuff about chechen orcs and and endorsing Azov videos.

A group of powerful, if sectarian and misguided, posters lost to the whims of the ever increasing censorship of the "free world." :sankara-salute: Hope the good ones find their way here, and learn that the "anarchists" they hate are the same breed as the dem socs they dunk on but principled, committed anarchists are comrades through and through, and that ironically stanning Assad and Putin morphing into unironic stanning of right-wing capitalist despots just because they oppose American imperialism is real Not Good.

Yeah I guess some of it was always unironic, but I like to think the original intent of those memes was ironic because they are legit funny. The "Assad must go" meme is an OG.

I've actually seen many a post on there that they support IRL anarchists who made an impact, and that the real problem is the ones on reddit. Thinking about it, their sectarianism makes a lot of sense, due to most "anarchists" and other communists would be just western libs, so they had to go full defense mode, resulting in the current sectarianism.

Contains a high volume of information not supported by credible sources.

What was wrong with the old fig leaf of "calls for violence" or "shocking content" or whatever like what they did for FullCommunism or the old cth sub? It's not even an attempt to hide, this basically says don't go against the western narrative - it's just shy of explicitly saying that. I think they easily could've stuck to the old fig leaf what the fuck is the deal with that, like there was plenty of gzd posters happy about the reddit legion getting missiled.

What was wrong with the old fig leaf of “calls for violence” or “shocking content”

They can't ban GZD for violence while VolunteersForUkraine is literally mobilizing international brigades. They can't ban GZD for posting shocking content because posting shocking videos of Russian atrocities is a key part of the war propaganda.

So they do it for some nickel and dime bullshit.

i'm actually shocked it took the people in charge this long to ban it. I think the current crisis with ukraine made them pay attention. They probably were under the impression that they had scrubbed the site of undesirables until a new crisis emerged.

“I disagree with what you say, but I’ll fight to the death to defend your right to say it”

any time someone says this garbage I ask 2 very simple questions (and I admit this is kinda "debatebro" energy so your mileage may vary)

1: Will you "defend to death" my right to attack free speech as an idea? (They usually say no)

2: Will you "defend to death" my right to dehumanize vulnerable groups and suggest collective violence against them? (They usually say yes)

This reveals immediately what they're about and even though arguing with them isn't worth it, if there's an audience of people, I think it lays the stakes on the table pretty clearly.
