BREAKING: The Supreme Court says it is constitutional for Congress to exclude residents of Puerto Rico from SSI benefits. The decision is 8-1 with Sotomayor dissenting. https://t.co/0Lu2xYhbu2 pic.twitter.com/R2wRMOZlWW— Chris Geidner (@chrisgeidner) April 21, 2022
There's a decent number of :maybe-later-kiddo: types who fantasize about Puerto Rico becoming a state so that the democrats will always win but I doubt the party leadership would ever let that happen, losing is their main strategy
i mean, who knows what's going to happen in 2 or 5 or 10 years, but right now the Republicans are simply too racist for 66% of Latino voters and rising
Probably not. The majority of their governors have been PPD with only a few PNP governors over the last couple decades. PPD aligns with Dems while PNP aligns with Republicans.
The political parties are mostly formed around positions regarding the statehood/independence/status quo question though. If they were to become a state, politicians of both parties would lose their positions and have to join Dems or Republicans which is why a lot of the politicians and business folks that "support" statehood publicly are against it privately and never want it to actually happen.
There was a viral video leading up to the 2020 election where the person depicted does an unhinged screed about there being "a fucking fascist in the white house" and voting for Biden to do a harm reduction.
I am under the impression it was a satirical post and they were kind of unjustly lampooned, but :maybe-later-kiddo: will live on as an icon of BlueAnon regardless.

It's advantageous to the mainland to keep them a territory. All the burdens of a state, with none of the perks or privileges.

Would Puerto Rico's senators or whatever even be democrats? Like aren't they pretty catholic and conservative

That's a good point. I still think it would lean more Democratic. They would probably vote similarly to Mexican Americans.
Yes, I agree with you there
Not to derail this thread but what does that emoji mean?

I've heard that. It really didn't feel satirical, but what do I know
origins discussed by Leon but it has come to symbolize the unique ability of libs to be condescending, arrogant, and wrong all at the same time.
Liberals managed to fucking lose a presidential election to Donald Trump and almost lost twice in a row.
If PR becomes a state, Dems will find a way to keep losing
yo if they say this about DC next that would be hilarious
