When your "layover" starts out in one city and ends in another.

I've taken plenty of train rides that had a bus component, and I never realized it when buying the tickets.

Kid me: It must be so amazing to be a pilot, they get to travel the world for free.

Airlines: Fuck you, here's your 4 day trip starting in Burgerville Alabama, we'll cover the cost of 2 potato chips. I'm sorry but with the pilot shortage things just are the way they are. Theres just no way to fix it. What do you mean pay more?

I wonder if paying people doing a really serious job like total shit for years combined with lifting a mask mandate so all your staff get covid could have something to do with this? :thinkin-lenin:

Their solution is to try and lower the bar not so that it's easier to get into the industry, but so that they can pay even less.

Absolutely yes, however this brought back the horror of the “Rail Replacement Bus Service” at holiday time in the UK :kitty-cri-screm:

    :geordi-no: 1 hour flight

    :geordi-yes: 4 hour drive

A 4 hour drive is probably faster compared to the total time from door to door for a flight

I don't think I've ever had a flight I've spent less than a combined 3 hours in the airport for, between all the hassle of checking in your luggage, TSA, boarding, picking your baggage back up, traversing the airport, etc.

I have to drive 2 hours just to get to the fucking airport. There’s an airport in my town but flying from that one adds like $200 to any flight so everyone flies to the big city 2 hours away.

Yeah. My rule of thumb is flying only makes sense if the drive is more than 6 hours one way. Because even driving 12 round trip, is probably about the same amount of time door to door as flying there and back.

last time I took a bus long distance it was way more comfortable than plane travel. not to mention like all the boarding security theater is much more chill.

like you get off the bus and you're on the street eating a corn dog in under 5 minutes.

Sounds like we need some deregulation for airlines and means testing for passengers!

Come on, a bus is just a plane that never got its wings. It's totally the same thing.

Charging $400 for an $80 bus from Houston to Dallas sounds cool as hell.

Breaking news: society continues to collapse as capitalism can’t handle having a shrinking labor force with millions of greedy boomers demanding their treats.
