Wait, why are we doing ops in Somalia? Is it because it's full of Islamists who are within striking distance of trade ships going through the Suez, Islamists in general, or a boondoggle to sell drone missiles to Africom?
Could be something to do with bordering Ethiopia. Could be because they want a presence near the Arabian peninsula and India. Could be more AFRICOM stuff. Could just be the blob seeing an opportunity to get more money while people are distracted with Ukraine, etc. I looked up what crops they have and it mostly seems sheep/animals (like 80%) and some small amounts of maize, wood, and tropical fruits, so it's not like cereal-acquisition.
Somali has really strong ties with the US. A lot of Somali politicians are Americans, Minneapolis is the biggest Somali population outside Mogandishu. And Al-Shabab is a real problem. So the imperialism train goes toot toot.
