Biden was still freelancing as a de facto diplomat and actor in Ukraine after Trump won. He was still active in terms of being an influencer and using his network. So how was it appropriate for Hunter Biden to have that job? Why wasn’t that the scandal instead of some hyperbolic and half baked sex scandal?

I think it's less about Bidens personally involvement, and more about the people in the State department that has worked with biden for a long time. Blinken has been an advisor for Biden since at least the early days of the war on terror, and is somewhat credited with Biden being such a proponent of the war.
