Good Twitter thread on a study (data from the World Bank published in research for the American Journal of Public Health) that showed socialist countries beat capitalist countries when it comes to metrics that actually matter to people (like physical health).

Scandinavia is undergoing a gradual shift to frog-boiling austerity.

It's always the case with them. Communist governments being elected into power and lasting a decade or so before being voted out proves that the people didn't really like it because it never works. Communist governments being elected into power and staying in power for several decades shows that it's inherently authoritarian and the people are oppressed.

And this was all achieved despite overwhelming headwinds from capitalists and imperialists. Socialism won with a significant handicap, making the achievements even more impressive.

Socialist states had lower infant mortality, lower child death rate, longer life expectancy, better literacy, better secondary education, better food access, more doctors and nurses, and better physical quality of life.

Commenting because I can't seem to save the post. Also this isn't that surprising if you had any sense of where the Soviet countries and China were at the start of their revolutions and compared that with what they would go on to manage.

the maoist uprising against the landlords was the largest and most comprehensive proletarian revolution in history, and led to almost totally-equal redistribution of land among the peasantry

Be sure to share with others instead of just keeping the knowledge to yourself. This is excellent education/agitation material. Especially the part at the end about neoliberal structural adjustment programs killing decolonization movements in their cradles.

Raw data was from the WB, authors of the study analyzed and interpreted it.

Don't they generally rely more on finding ways to deceptively present real data than on falsifying the data in the first place? Like trying to take credit for China's reduction in poverty by including Chinese figures in global poverty stats to hide that everywhere that's implemented the World Bank's chosen policies has seen poverty increase? Outright fraud would invite scandal, while gross misrepresentation of data is easier to get away with.

I love Jason Hickel so much. Seems relatively mainstream, too, as far as climate change-related academics go, so it's especially good to see him posting about the superiority of Marxist-Leninist states. :freedom-hater:
