Electoralism is a soap opera with a dense and stupid lore that most people on this site realize is pointless but already got invested in as libs and keep up with only due to the sunk cost.

Electoralism and :vote: ing are good strategies if they only take up an hour or so of your time, not if they take 6 months.

You can absolutely just check out. What you do for local elections is about the fullest extent that you need to, since the ghouls will make their reactionary positions known easily and you can quickly tell who to vote for. You're not under an obligation to watch electoral politics that closely and honestly I don't think there's much benefit to it. You know why it won't lead to change, you agree that it won't lead to change. Why put in anymore than the minimum effort then? What benefit do you or your community members get out of your time and energy being directed at something you agree isn't an avenue for significant change?

They really do make it easy. I realized the other day that living is 99.9% what you tune out. I'm just adding all that shit to the tune out pile.

Do they though? Local elections are non partisan where I'm at and they all spout the same "strong communities, empowered leadership" bullshit where you can't tell one bourgois striver from the other. The state of local journalism is so bad you won't hear about goings on in your city council unless they do something so batshit insane it makes national news. So who has time to sit through city council meetings to sus out who's going to turn the empty lot into a strip mall vs. a public park?

Maybe I just like in a much more reactionary part of the country than you, but I've seen local candidates for schoolboard positions talking opening about fighting CRT and other shit like that. On the more mild end, you can still discern pretty easily what's a dog whistle or just suspicious sounding. Not to say the other options on ballots are amazing candidates or whatever, but at least where I'm from it's pretty clear who you should throw a harm reduction vote at just by going to their campaign online

Nah, electoralism is hot bullshit. You're already voting for local stuff, and those elections can often hinge on a few votes one way or another, but unless you're working with a local campaign to try to, idk, pass an ordinance setting all your local ski-doo dealers on fire or reallocating police budgets to arming the homeless, there's not that much worth worrying about.

And the issue is that if you actually attempt to do local stuff via electoralism, you’d better have some firepower to back it up, because the chuds aren’t just going to give in if you win an election. This is why building orgs is more important than vooting.

I still maintain that who controls the waste-water processing plant controls the world. Everyone's hard until you back up three feet of untreated sewage in to their McMansion.

Yeah, I mean tbf they don't think voting matters, but seem heavily invested in trying to convince others that the dems aren't worth a vote. I kind of just think yeah, I agree, now I'm done thinking about it once the decision is made. I don't need to watch 3 hours a day of content about it for the next 2 years. I'm trying to convince them to read theory instead and they make fun of me for it lol.

Yes, absolutely. Electoralism's use is in spreading propaganda in the political arena that libs pay attention to and not much more. Unless there's someone shitting on American imperialism or something I'm not gonna pay much attention.

I still vote in local shit, but I don’t even know who is on the ballot until its time to fill it out, I just do some research, make a choice, and move on.

This is absolutely the right thing to do.

I think it's also reasonable to vote harm reduction or protest votes in the nationals, but this has a very tiny amount of actual impact. Still worth it if it takes you ten minutes. Not worth it if it takes you two years of listening to political commentary.

It's worth voting in the state and federal elections just on the off chance it will slow down the Republican's plan to launch us in to Turbo-Hell. Every day we buy is one more day to try to convert Libs before Mecha-Hitler starts shooting at us from the Moon.

Nah, that is right. If it is not a huge sacrifice to wait in line and vote do. But anti-electoralism is just not fooling yourself into thinking that any significant change will happen with voting alone. I usually just give a cursory glance over the candidates and use things like DSA endorsements for minor offices to find the slightly less shitty ghoul. The point of voting is just so you get the 99% soulless evil ghoul instead of the 100%, but you are not going to do better than that and the dog and pony show is to keep people thinking that there will be major differences and :vote: ing will change things.

Electoral and parliamentary news is only good for one thing, which is agitation. If you're here, on this niche communist forum, you're probably already agitated enough.
