gotta say its pretty fuckin dangerous to help a drowning guy without any equipment or ropes or sticks or anything, and in the video the guy was under a bridge with no way for anyone to throw a rope (if there even was one) or use that rake to grab him because its a solid 20 foot drop. jumping in is an absolute death sentence

that said, i wish those cops tried to help him :officer-down:

Yeah, they should have tried tossing things in if possible but jumping in without water rescue training and weighing heavy vests is against every good guideline imaginable. You don't want to create even more victims.

This applies to everyone btw. If you ever see anyone drowning and aren't professionally trained, do not get in the water with them. Throw things that float in to help or try to reach them with a stable object but do not get in yourself. Drowning people are not acting rationally so they can and will pull you down with them.

Cities need to bring back lifesavers near municipal lakes like this.

They ditched them over time when they were vandalized but they used to be everywhere because only recently could most Americans swim.

cops probably use runflats and a spare tire is heavy as hell, easily 30+ lbs. it's like throwing an anchor to someone

They could have called someone with more training. Please don't defend the pig's actions.

Am I? Like who do you call that can get there in the time it takes to drown to save them? Doubt ambulance has anything

It's unfortunate but that's likely just not true. You're unconscious within about two minutes or so, and in seven you're near/already dead. Nobody could manage to get there in that time unless whatever water rescue experts they have happen to be located extremely close, which is possible but not guaranteed.

I agree they should still try immediately tho to get dispatch in and calling up the pros.

I mean, either they try to claim that they do protect and serve, and lose the case due to that case that supreme court ruling, or they get forced to admit exactly who they protect and serve. Sounds like a lose lose for the cops to me

They've already said the quiet parts out loud and people just don't care. Another court case to prove it won't do anything.

Sure it wouldn't have any tangible effect, I'm not saying it'd be this big hit to their image or finally turn everyone into abolitionists, but it would be funny to watch cops be backed into a corner and made to squirm if it worked out and it could have its use in propaganda

The court is just going to end up sending you to jail for doubting cops or something, the courts are the cops you can't catch them on a gotcha

sad story. cops show up for nothing (a call for a domestic dispute that no witnesses claim they saw), run names of homeless folks for warrant, one panics and runs, and he dies for it. note to self - don't call cops.

i mean just because the wife says it wasnt domestic doesnt mean it wasnt a domestic. its really common for women to take the side of the abuser to avoid future abuse.

In the transcript, an officer reportedly threatened to detain his wife, telling her, "If you don't calm down, I'm going to put you in my car."
