So my folks watched Squid Game and liked it, they also liked Snow Piercer and I'm trying to get them to watch Parasite. However like most of their generation they have this American cultural brainworms hangup, meaning movies don't "mean" anything. Therefore Squid Games is not a leftist reflection focused on capitalism and especially South Korean capitalism even though it's smashed right into your face literally every other second. So their response to any of these assertions is "well I guess that's what YOU take away from the film" even though the director is openly leftist.
